Cat, I Just like making my own decisions most of the time.....I don't always shoot in manual, just a lot of the time. Cameras (some) come with all those features so it give one a choice. Some Cameras only have auto modes and no manual mode. In the race track, I would probably set my aperture for my DOF and shutter for motion I wanted, and either auto ISO or set it manually, depending on if the light is changing a lot.

To me its more challenging to set things in manual. anyone can set A or P IMHO. Just me. To each his own.

You are challenging the camera? Demonstrating to yourself that YOU are as smart as the engineers who wrote the algorithms for all the automation? Why buy a Nikon 750 or 850? You are paying all that money for all that automation and then using the camera like a Brownie.

If you understand lighting, you'll never have to use auto regardless and you'll spend less time sitting in front of your computer. My camera is always set on M.

Nikon D750

I am sure then, you still drive a stick shift, and not one of those wussey automatics!

Auto ISO would be for quickly changing lighting conditions. Since you're on a racetrack and that's not going to happen typically unless it's a cloudy day and clouds come over and drastically change the conditions full manual the way to go.

I simply do not understand why someone would spend heaps of money on a machine that costs all that money because of all the engineering which provides automatic features such as auto ISO, auto aperture adjustment, auto shutter speed, and then proclaim that the only way to use such a marvel is to eschew all of its features and set EVERYTHING manually! I just don't get it! Please explain.... I really want to know!

why are the people red ?

Check the color calibration on your monitor. The people are a bit tan - this is the South, but if they look red on your monitor it is your monitor. The image in the camera is neutral in cast. The way you can tell it is neutral is to look at the whites. If you test the white in a graphics program and get a readout of the rgb values you can see if there is a red tinge. Turning up the saturation can also produce color distortion in jpg's

I thought the posts were getting a bit boring, so I thought it would be a good time to drop a rock in the puddle.

Debating topic with friends.

Scenario
High speed race cars.

Manual iso
Manual shutter speed
Manual fstop

Or
Auto iso
Shutter priority

What’s the pro con of each.

Have my opinion and preference but would like to hear other opinions.

Thanks

Shutter priority I use quite a bit because I am always shooting puppies who move almost as much as hummingbirds. If I were just a normal person, and not a dog breeder I would probably be using aperture priority more than any other mode. The last thing I worry about and rarely fiddle with is ISO, because the cameras I use give very good results no matter what ISO is used. Full manual is something I rarely use. Our cameras are capable of very sophisticated adjustments and compromises and they do it very quickly and efficiently. At least my Fujis do. So I say let them do it. No need for me to throw away all that engineering just so I can DIY.

Why are you on this forum if you just want a simple auto-everything point & shoot? Apparently you either don't care about the technical or don't understand them. There are lots of websites to view nicely composed photos which is only a tiny aspect of this forum. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I don't get your attitude with respect to this forum.

I agree. You missed the point. There is technical-useful and there is TECHNICAL for its own sake. Complication does not often yield better results. We have instruments that, handled quite simply, do very sophisticated things if we allow them to. My little Fuji is just that sort of machine. I DO understand what it is doing. I appreciate what it is doing. And I am not so convinced of my own genius to think I can substantially improve on it. (Ie manual, raw, processing, stacking etc.) I have tinkered with all of these, and I have seen enough pedestrian results on this forum to convince me I am well served by my little XT-1.

I read all these posts about not getting the color right, or the exposure is always wrong or the photos are unsharp despite all sorts of stacking or processing, using high powered 36MPs and super tele's, RAW processed with high priced software, while my little XT1 gives me sharp well exposed colorful jpegs right out of the camera with no effort at all. No I cannot put a 600 mm zoom on it 'cause they don't make one for it, but my 230 delivers an equivalent 345, and it is only 4 inches long and weighs only a few ounces! And I have yet to see an excellent amateur result with a 600 anyhow. You can't handhold a lens like that and I am never going to drag around a tripod! I am convinced most camera buffs are overthinking and over purchasing and could do much more with less if it is the right "less". (Which my little old Fuji is for me.)

I have an XT-1 and an XT-2. I like the 1 perhaps even more than the 2. Smaller, simpler and it just knows what to do. Here, for instance is a shot on auto everything of the little plaza in my town. Shade and sun, subjects of all reflectance values, and Fuji just sorted it all out to the very best compromise of all possibilities and gave me this beautifully balanced little vignette of Americana with lovely colors, right out of the camera. And it does it every time. No it does not have mega megapixels, and I usually use the kit lens (this was the kit lens for this photo), but it delivers the exposure, the sharpness, the color every time. Yes i could improve this by cropping, it is the entire frame as is!

After 13 pages of answers, questions, comments and other remark, I would not dare to ask for opinions on whether FF is better or worse than mirrorless camera, or anything related to compare the two type of cameras. It has been beaten more than a dead horse.

If you think that, why are you reading it? We're just having a little fun! Everybody KNOWS the prism and mirror is the dead horse. Some have just not admitted it yet.

The premise of that argument is that the size of the sensor is the only determinant of quality and usability. That is equivalent to saying , "The only thing that makes a woman attractive is the size of her boobs!" Clearly a measure of the quality of the speaker, not of the woman!
