[quote=NikonGal]This marina is on the Miles River which runs into Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. It was taken early evening, but without a beautiful sunset. Hope you enjoy working it up.

Converted to B/W, flipped horizontally, stretched and cropped canvas, increased contrast and sharpness

According to some, the f/32 version should be heading straight for the bin, especially since it's a crop sensor camera. I recon that if the f/32 sharpening got an extra tweak it would put it on much the same level as the f/8 version (and that includes the 100% view).

I applied a little "Unsharp Mask" to the f/32 version and the difference between it and the f/8 version was so close as to be virtually undetectable (in this particular case, on my monitor).

Looks like white balance was off or, lighting was by tungsten lights when camera was set to "Daylight". Reducing the yellow in post processing makes a more realistic picture.

[quote=Jim-Pops]I found this photo on a free site. The picture is flat, without any punch. Your challenge is to use your editing magic to improve the image/composition. When your done please add your image to this post.

Same modifications as my color shot plus, changed to black and white and increased sharpness and contrast.

Resized and cropped image, rotated canvas horizontally, removed some tree limbs, adjusted color, contrast and sharpness.

In a discussion with 2 photographers yesterday all 3 of us believed "composition" to be the most lacking quality in photos lately, i.e., the subject dead center.

[quote=KTJohnson]I took this photo of a barn in Ladysmith, Wisconsin just a few weeks ago. This is SOOC, it needs some work, but there's a lot here to work with. Have fun.

I changed image to B/W, rotated horizontally, stretched canvas both horizontally and vertically, removed overhead wires, removed "junk" in front of silo, adjusted contrast with Levels in PS, dodged and burned a few areas. Thanks for the opportunity to mess around!

I worked on the MA 6A-7A Bomb Nav system on the '47 in the early 60's. I'm wondering where they managed to fit the 4th crew member in. When we flew as a tech support we had to sit on our parachute on the step ....., next to the P can. Very uncomfortable!

For landscapes/seascapes I rarely open up to even f/5.6. Most are taken in the f/8 - f/11 range.

The benefit of an f/2.8, or faster, lens is the brightness in the viewfinder possibly allowing for more critical focus.

An impossible shot for 100 ASA film, 180mm lens at f/5.6 and 1/250. DOF is only .1"

My first experience with a 600mm was similar to yours. Things like heat shimmer and haze affect a long lens much more than a shorter lens. Please provide more info i.e., aperture, exposure, ISO etc. The easiest way is to put a check in the "[]Store Original" box when uploading the photo so we can see this data in the EXIF info.

Have you tried a Polarizing filter? Takes a little fooling around but generally works on glare such as this. Nice shot!!
