This was my 2nd photo excursion on Honeymoon Island in less than a month. Fortunately, I live nearby and have fallen in love with the Osprey and other birds and wildlife on the island. Canon 5DMII/100-400 L IS. (Can't wait for the Tamron 150-600 to arrive next month so I don't have to crop quite as much). PS: I saw another posting of Osprey from Washington (state) which makes me realize how prolifically wide ranging these beautiful birds are.
Way to go Donrich! I'm always happy to see such beautiful results from the Tamron 150-600 which I placed on order a few weeks ago (from BnH) but have to wait for the back log to catch up with me. I'm concerned about your AI Servo problem, however, as I shoot quite a bit in that mode as well. I hope I don't have the same issue after waiting a month or more for my big lens to arrive. Thanks again for posting and again...nice shooting:)
Love your close-up work. The bird shots are quite colorful but I assume that the bee capture was probably the most challenging. I've also been doing some close-up/macro work lately and I've yet to capture a bee as nicely framed and sharply focused as this one. Keep up the beautiful work:)
Nicely done. I like the first one best but all are good. Keep feeding the little critters:)
Excellent link. Thanks for sharing. Saved to Favs.
You might also try checking your AF distance setting switch (on the lens). It has 2 positions: 1.8m - Infinity and 6.5m - Infinity. You may be having an issue with distance to subject or (hopefully not) a problem with the lens. Chances are its something already mentioned by others above. Keep shooting, keep posting and good luck!
Are we REALLY hung up on the color of our lenses? Thought we left all this behind in the 60's!
Hey Oldtigger, I must be as stupid as your large barrel because I didn't quite get your meaning. Did I lose something in translation?
Jerry, I read the same article but didn't think about sharing it as you did. Thanks for thinking of others! The complete article was pretty good and so are your abbreviated notes.
Here's a few more shots I'm not as reluctant to "show & tell" although they're not exactly dive-bombing shots. I captured them the same day as the above posted pelican shots - about 2 weeks ago at Honeymoon Island and the Florida Sunshine Skyway Bridge fishing pier (the old bridge before the tragic collapse that took lives years ago).
At Amehta's request, the third (bottom) photo is my best and thus far - ONLY nearly successful attempt at shooting diving birds. Maybe not the best example but it is my first but hopefully not last attempt at success. Thanks for asking Amehta!
Thanks to one and all for your thoughts and photos here in "Nailing Diving Birds." I've received LOTS of good ideas and recommendations, all of which I can't wait to put to good use later in the week when I go after those pesky pelicans once again. Can't wait to post my own photos worthy of your expert opinions when I have something worth sharing. Until then, have a good week and happy-shooting one & all. Terry/tmrawshooter
Amehta, I'll give your technique a go on my next bird-diving photo shoot later in the week. I'll be sure to post when I've got something worth sharing. Until then, thanks for your thoughts concerning zooming & framing. Happy Shooting:)
Thanks HEART! I'll check em out.
Moles: I'll give it a shot! (Pun intended): Thanks for sharing:)
