Welcome to UHH Alissa Like the first picture the best, the focus on the bench with the graffiti draws you into the photo. I see you live on S.I here's a link to a nice group of photographers on the Island. Were trying to get a opportunity to photograph the inside of the Forts at Ft Wadsworth at night.

The rubber lens hood is good when shooting through glass you can put the hood against the glass and because it's flexible you can tilt the camera instead of having to shoot straight on with a rigid hood.
You didn't say what camera you have. I have Nikon and have no trouble opening and viewing RAW photos in Windows Photo Gallery. You have to go to Nikon's site and down load the latest codecs For NEF and NRW RAW files and install them. I would think that if you have a Canon you could do the same.
Tug boat races are on Labor day weekend in NYC if you go to the pier just south of the Intrepid Museum you can watch the races.
Hello Natalie I go on the Tug Boat races here in NYC. Have never had a problem with salt spray have gone 4 years in a row, would not hurt to carry a rain sleeve though, I always have one in my bag in case I need it. The lenses you have will do fine.
