I just got my first FF camera. Nikon D610. I was wondering if anyone has this lens. If so....What do you think about it?

I have it on my D810 as my only travel lens. Very versatile lens.

My 2020 airshow season looks like it's going down the drain, starting with MCAS Yuma this coming weekend, and then all the California airshows. I guess my anticipated test of the D500 & Tamron 150-600 G2 can wait until next year. :-(

Mr. Burkholder brings up several interesting arguments in his first post above. I have not considered them before and will certainly have to investigate them further.

One thing that I know from experience is that Nikon makes only a small handful of premium, professional grade lenses specifically for their DX cameras. I have owned a 17-55mm f2.8 DX zoom for probably 12 years. It is an outstanding lens and still delivers the highest level of performance when used on my D500. I also have occasionally used it to shoot square format on my D810 and D850, where it yields results fully comparable to the 24-70mm f2.8, except for image size. I have also looked at the Gold Ring 16-80mm f2.8-f4 DX zoom, but found it pretty disappointing. It turns out to be f4 over almost all of its range, and its construction really does not impress me.

On the other hand, I extensively use an FX Gold Ring 24-120mm f4 zoom on my second D500. That lens needs a little boost on saturation, contrast, and sharpness, but otherwise delivers consistently excellent results on the DX body.

My biggest concern with using an FX lens on a DX body is really around what might happen with stray rays of light from the larger image. In teality, I've never found this to be a problem in the 12 years that I've been using DX lenses. It could become a problem if the flat black paint started flaking off of the structures inside the mirror box.

To summarize, I have experienced zero downside from using full frame lenses on DX cameras, going all the way back to my D200. I have paid a small weight penalty, but it was nothing insurmountable. And when I did expand to full frame, I was ready to go except for a better wide angle and eventually a longer telephoto.

I own the D500, D610, D750 & D810. I recently bought the 17-55mm f2.8 DX, to be used exclusively on the D500. It's not cheap & pretty heavy but I love this D500 & 17-55mm combo.

Adorama doesn't charge sales tax? I think a lot of customers are going to be very surprised to hear that. Your information is incorrect.

Yep, Adorama does charge sales tax.

Good morning fellow Hoggers!
I enjoy and appreciate much of the dialogue here as always.
After six years with a 5200, just recently, I stepped up to the D810. What an incredible difference as most of you well know. I was able to acquire a few FX lenses to use when I got it.
So my question:
The 5200 has one SD card slot of course, that was what I used all the time and I always kept the SD cards after they filled up because memory so cheap. I think I’m ready to start recycling those from several years ago. With good back up, there is no good reason to keep them.
The D810 has one CF card and one SD card. How do you folks manage the use of these two cards? There’s three options I believe, I forget right now but there’s three options as far as how to manage the saving of files. I shoot and save only RAW and then everything goes through Lightroom (on to PS for special work as desired). My workflow right now is everything comes off the SD card because I can plug that right into my computer to load to my external working drive.
So I’m only saving RAW.
How would you suggest using the CF card in conjunction with the SD card?
Thank you all!

I use my D810 to shoot airshows with RAW going to the CF card & JPEGs going to the SD card. That kind of setup does alleviate buffering problems. I was using Lexar CF cards a lot until the time I start getting "Card Err" in the middle of shooting. That's when I switch to SanDisk, no more problems since then.

Thanks. Bought the d810. 95 percent of my shots are wide. My 11-16 f2.8 spent more time on the camera and I was happy with the pictures. Ebay still scares me a little, so I've gone with b&h, keh, and others since my local store closed

You may want to try MPB. Very good prices & reliable.

I need some advice. I pulled the GAS trigger today on a Nikon FF camera to replace my D7500. I'm not a pro. I shoot landscape, still life, and things that don't talk back. I have a full assortment of crop sensor lens,

I shoot a Nikon D750. I have this lens and it rarely leaves the camera. Many others on here have, and love this lens as I do.
Thanks, Boone.
