Illy Intenso bold roast espresso, great tasting coffee over and over. The beans are not oily like Starbucks espresso beans and do not clog up the grinder and other parts in a super automatic coffee machine. We buy then direct from illy and they are shipped to the house. You can reuse the empty cans for storage of small parts in the shop, amongst other things. Started drinking illy in all the cafes and restaurants in Italy and France.

Apple just finished announcing its first products of 2022. You can watch the video (an hour) at Apple dot com.

The highlight of this for me is the new Mac Studio. It is an all new computer they have never offered before. It has the M1 Max SOC in it, but you can also order it with their latest Apple Silicon, the M1 ULTRA. The ultra contains an integrated fusion of TWO M1 Max chips.

Suffice it to say, this new machine is many times faster than the fastest iMac Pro in their previous line-up. It is faster than most of the lower end Mac Pro configurations.

A new 27" 5K display with all sorts of audio and video features, ports, and its own processor is also offered for use with the Mac Studio and all their other computers.

If you have been waiting for Apple's " new 27" iMac," this is probably the replacement for the old Intel model. They said at the end of the presentation that they have "just one more replacement to go — the Mac Pro."

Shipping March 18, the M1 Max Mac Studio starts at about $2000. The M1 ULTRA Mac Studio starts at about $4000. The 27" Studio Display is $1600. Of course, everything has options...

The reviewers on YouTube and at the old fashioned review sites are going to have plenty to say about these soon. Comparisons with all sorts of Intel and AMD hardware will be interesting. Apple said some pretty boastful things in the presentation.

Actually I am pretty disappointed with the announcement, while the new computer is a powerful beast I don't really see a replacement for the iMac with this offering.

I am more disappointed with the Studio Display, I think its price point is ridiculous to be honest. In Canada the display is $1999 with the regular anti glare glass (which is fine) and the standard stand. But put a stand that is adjustable on and the price jumps to $2499, really $500 for an adjustable stand.

I was waiting to see what they would announce for a display that I would use with my 14" MacBook Pro. After that announcement I will be going with the Benq SW321c (comes with an adjustable stand and a hood).

The new iPad with the M1 chip looks good for someone wanting that size iPad. My wife's iPad is getting long in the tooth so Apple might get me to part with some money for it but that's it.

Of course it is doubtful we can afford gas to drive the car to the Apple store these days, lol.

It looks like Crucial SSDs are absolutely terrible! I have several installed in various laptops and one desktop and have had not problems yet.

I have four of those Crucial drives two in MacBook Pros, one in a windows desktop and one in an iMac. All have been working very well. One Samsung Evo in an iMac and it died in two months. Overall I think ssd’s are quite reliable

I have a show coming up in April at the Spark Photo Festival in Peterborough Ontario Canada and due to some massive house repairs I can't afford to properly frame my prints. Being a digital specialist I figured to do it all digitally and use a peel and stick substrate. I have 2 choices and ask your opinion on which one strikes you as more presentable. Of course the double mat would save me a pile of black ink considering that the entire show is in B/W but the triple just seems to pop. I have 34 prints to do and many are panoramas so that black ink just may become an issue. But certainly not as much as framing would be. Thanks for your help.

Very nice, I like the double and agree the purchaser will then frame it anyway. I like the picture, looks like the Giant’s Tomb island in Georgian Bay which if it is would make the clouds and sky be perfect the way you have depicted them. Nice work!

I didn’t leave a space so will try it again when I am up and about.

(And now my iMac is running normally!)

What puzzles me is why in recent weeks I have had this issue when I have been a happy Mac OS user for years. Have there been ‘developments’ in app software? Presumably there have?

using Finder is much easier than using terminal and the tedious typing of commands, these directories are not hidden on my Macs

open a Finder pane
select your computer in location
select the Macintosh drive (or whatever the name of your main drive is)
there you will see Applications, Library, System and Users
select Library and then you will see the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders (if you don't see what you are looking for in this one, go back one level and)
select System and then you will see the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders there for you to pursue

Here is a sample finder window of mine (MacIntosh HD on mine is /, Don't ask)

"Excess deaths" is a public health concept going back many decades. It is simply the number of deaths from all causes over the number of deaths from all causes from a previous comparable period. In the absence of any other circumstance that kills numbers of people, the "excess deaths" are assumed to be from Covid. I believe Covid deaths have been undercounted, since people who die at home from Covid are frequently not examined by a coroner. People who die in hospital from the complications of Covid have prevailed upon medical providers not to list the death as Covid, esp when the deceased was not vaccinated.

Not to be argumentative but where do you live that people that die at home are frequently not examined by a coroner. I am pretty surprised by that comment. Really can't see a medical person concerned with whether a person was vaccinated or not when they are recording the cause of death.

I expect medical practitioners to record facts, the government here has started reporting deaths from covid as well as death with covid.

I too have the Rigid Palm nailer, fantastic tool but you do have to have a compressor and hose. Those types of nailers are amazing when deck building with a base frame is 12" centers, all the cross bracing and hurricane fasteners.

The battery one would be very convenient as long as the battery has a long run time.

I don't think mine was any louder than the battery one in the video.

and I forgot to add that the granddaughters loved being able to help and drive in nails on the deck project. They were 7 at the time.

Wish I hadn't loaded Windows11--my old Epson Scanner isn't compatible with it.

buy VueScan and use that to control your scanner, great program and worth every penny rather than changing to a newer scanner. I have the Mac version, I am sure there is a Windows version. Even though the scanner maker is not making a new driver for the new operating systems, VueScan still operates the scanners with all their features.

We are still using a Canoscan 9000 that hasn't been supported for a few years now. VueScan works for most scanners.

Actually, they do NOT call themselves Indians. Indian is a title besowed on them by white men early in the settlement of North America by Europeans. Indians (Native Americans if you wish) called themselves as members of specific tribes (families). They didn't particulary worry about such things. If you were a member of their tribe, you may or may not be okay. If you were a member of a tribe that was friendly with them you either got a pass or were treated as a friend. If you were a member of a competing or non-friendly tribe, you were enslaved or killed. Yes, I am a member of the Chicasaw tribe and 1/4th Chicasaw (not Indian, they come from India... in south Asia). Oh and by the way, the only reason that this continent is called America is because of Americus Vespuci (another European) and not because the residents called it that. Oh, and we (the Indians) never called ourselves indians. That was a monicer applied by people stealing our lands (white Europeans). While you are at it, you might ask the govenment of the United States to please pay the Chickasaw the 40 to 60 million dollars that they were supposed to pay when they purchased Florida prior to our removal. Ummm what would that be now in current dollars and with accrued interes over the couple of hundred years of the United States ignoring their treaty?

Hi Ron

I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro 14 as well and all my photos are on an external Synology diskstation. The Lightroom catalog was on an iMac 27. The iMac is going to my daughter's and was to be erased.

I made a directory of folders on my new 14 inch computer that was the same as my iMac 27. then I just copied the adobe folder that had the catalog on it from the old computer to the new one.

Then I downloaded creative cloud and installed Lightroom and photoshop onto the new computer.

once downloaded opened Lightroom and selected open catalog and selected the copied one. It worked with no problems and pointed to all the photos on the Synology diskstation.

If you did not change anything about where your photos are stored and you name everything the same it should work fine. (famous last words).

Great game as were the games last weekend, I truly didn't expect that comeback but it was great to watch. Mahomes is a fantastic quarterback that makes many outstanding plays, that Cinci's defence shut him down in the second half is a testament to them. Burrows appears to be the real deal too.

Bring on the Super Bowl
