Jeep_daddy and fish2live seem to be spot on. Thank you. I think that both situations were present. I needed to reset the tool, which got it to work (although there seem to be some quirks that will require some practice to get used to). But I also believe that I was attempting to clone on a masked layer, which seems to have been clarified by fish2live. Thanks for your help. I will continue on into the deep dark abyss of PS!!

I am an LR/PS subscription holder, and have used LR for a few years now. After watching a demo of PS, I realize I now need to add PS to my workflow on occasion. In doing so, I don't think my Clone Stamp tool is working, but am not smart enough to know for sure, and/or, know what to do about it. All the tutorials indicate that all you do is alt click a sample area, then paint that over the area to be repaired. First I couldn't get the tool to select a sample area, then, after looking in the Preference pull down(but not really changing anything), it seemed to work (but not really like I had thought it would). Yesterday, when I went to use the tool again (on a different photo), no matter where I attempted to select a sample area, I wound up with a sample from the photo that I had used yesterday. That sample still wouldn't paint on the photo. So, I'm hoping that someone here, can shed some light on this. I have to assume that the tool isn't working, but don't know what to do about it. Thanks for any help.

I have a 7DII, as well as other bodies. Lately, I have relegated to 7DII to the bag in favor of full frame bodies due to my concerns about noise. But I have to say, I fully recognize that the 7DII is fully capable of making top notch images if there is good light and you make good exposures and the additional reach is nice as well. But there are times when 7DII images will suffer from excessive noise, at least in my opinion.

I only shoot in raw, open images in Adobe Camera Raw and make initial edits there, using the luminance slider to help with the noise as necessary. Once the image is opened in Photoshop, I can use noise reduction there as well. The problem of coarse is when using the noise reduction techniques described above, you also loose sharpness. Hence the frustration.

Would anyone be willing to share what noise reduction techniques or software they use that provides better control than I have just described. I would like to improve and get more use out of the 7DII.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have my camera. I have found that my 7DII produces so much noise above ISO 800 that the images are pretty much useless. What I haven't figured out yet is whether this is more a result of the camera/lens combo (Sigma 150-500), the distance to subject, or what. My 6D is far superior in this regard, but I lose the 1.6 crop factor. Here is an example, (maybe similar to what you are finding), shot at about 300', cropped pretty heavily. Regardless, great info has been provided.

This guy was harrassing my feeders yesterday, so took the opportunity to practice my fill flash techniques. 7DII, Sigma 150-500

Nice set. I live in the Phoenix area and we have a few hanging around over the winter, only one or two in summer. The problem here is every time I put the feeder out it attracts bees and so I end up taking it down again. Oh well.

Our place is in Wickenburg, and we have quite a few in the winter there. This guy, however, dominated the yard during our stay. Made it easier a bit, because I just focused on him and where he was hanging out.

Excellent shots JT. You must be quick on the draw to nail them like that.

Thanks for looking. Yeah I think out of about 400 shots I got maybe 10 keepers. LOL Sure is fun though!

Spent the past week in Arizona and had the opportunity to chase this guy around the yard. A very fun and challenging exercise using natural light. Canon 7DII with Sigma 150-500.

Thanks for looking, I could hear my 7DII straining under the failing light, LOL.

These are so good! Hoping these guys are regulars and you post many more. They look so good with the white snow as their background.

Thanks jeanbug35, I hope they stay around a bit longer.

Nice shots jteee. I always wonder how the animals make it through the winters. It's been pretty cold here too.

This small herd usually moves down to the river, about 3 miles away, to winter. I think my alfalfa field has held them longer this year.
