Thanks everyone. I LOVE AMI. It's my most favorite place in the USA to visit when in need of relaxation.

For those of you who live on or near the island, you're very blessed to be in a slice of paradise. I've been vacationing on the island for years (as in 40+ yrs) and have noticed quite a few changes, but for the most part it's still the same, beautiful place where I can bike, kayak, and take photographs of God's nature at its best.

Thanks everyone. It was a beautiful morning and I was out early enough that I had the roads and side streets to myself.

I like the Manfritto line of tripods. They offer light but sturdy tripods. There are some good tripods that cost less. Really Right Stuf offers a good tripod. If you fly a lot and want to take your tripod with you, look for one that folds down very short. It will fit in a backpack or suitcase. Look at either B&H or Adorama, they carry an exstensive line of tripods. Both companies offer good advice. Shutterbug magazine had a good article on travel tripods last year. Travel tripods are study but collapse to a shorter length than regular tripods. Carbon fiber tripods offer somewhat less weight, but higher cost. When I bought mine tripod, I went with regular aluminum because I felt carbon fiber ones were not that much lighter and I felt the difference was not worth the added cost. I bought mine 7 years ago, so things may have changed.
Think about what type of ball head you want. If you shoot birds in flight, a gimbal head is a good way to go. They are not cheap.
If you have any more questions, send me a private email and I will answer them for you.

No question that there are environments in which a tripod is not the tool of choice. I have done a lot of sports - auto racing and swimming specifically and a tripod there is out of the question.

Checked out your site, Steve. I love your photos.

My camera (Canon 60-D) is not that heavy and I do not have a very large/heavy lens but find I don't take my inexpensive tripod out with me very much due to it being unwieldy. I know, though, that my photos would be sharper if I did use a tripod on most shots. What are your favorite tripods to use in the field?

My husband went to pick one up once and put him back in the pond; the snapper lunged at him and nearly got his finger. Afterwards we coaxed the snapper into a box lid and took him back to his 'happy place' near the pond.

You're kind-hearted, Erv.

There are some things to know. Amazon Photo Cloud will show RAW images but will store the image information that can be downloaded later. You can create folders and sub-folders to organize you images.

Thank you.

Going on a bus trip to Savanah,ga in Sept. Have a choice from 3 cameras to take,Nikon p7800, Sony a6000, and a Sony hx80v. What would be the recommended camera to take?

You may also want to consider going to Wormsloe Historic Site ... http://gastateparks.org/Wormsloe/

Other than the historic value to the site, the beautiful entrance to the park has been seen in photographs of Savannah worldwide. Here's a photo I took last year (with clean-up help from a fellow UHH'er).

Amazon Cloud for Photos is unlimited storage. If you have the premium membership it is free, otherwise it is $12 a year. I don't think anyone is able to beat price for unlimited storage.

Thanks for this information John. I am a Prime member and didn't realize the unlimited storage was free. Just did my download. :-)
