Thanks for the kind words everyone. Like I say, the D850 can get the job done for action and I really don't feel like I'm missing out by not using my D500 or even my D5. I think the D850 strikes a really good balance between frame rate, AF, and resolution for just about any kind of nature photography.

Hi Steve,

From a few YouTube vids by users of both the D500 and the D850, I understood that the D500 may have a slight edge in focusing speed over the D850, even though they share the same focusing system. I seem to recall that this conclusion was reached by at least two professionals. I am almost certain that photographer Mark Smith mentioned this in one of his videos. In any case, from your posts here, is it safe to say that you are not of that opinion? Do you believe that the D850 focuses just as fast as the D500?

Thanks for your valued input.
Best

ps: Also, thanks for sharing the great shots.

In sample 1 above notice the (what appears to be) pencil buttons immediately after the words Title and Comment. Press these buttons to save your title or comments after editing.

Thanks Rick, that was it! I pressed the button to enter the comment not thinking that it was needed to save it.

Much appreciated.

Just add your title and/or comment. The comments will not appear in full screen mode or during a slide show. They will appear if the user just cycles thru the images in the shared folder as seen in screenshot sample 2 below.

Thanks for this. After reading your answer, I went back and tried it again. No comments! Then I realized that none of my comments are saved. That is, I went thru the entire album adding comments to the pics and none of them remain. A discovery that I can not explain. Wish there was a way to get assistance from Nikon for this.

ps: Glad it works for you. I will investigate further.

Nice shot taken from a cell phone. Saint John would be proud of it.

Thanks.

Honestly, I was very surprised at how it turned out -- I usually do not use the cell phone for photos.

Hi All,

Most of you probably know that Nikon Image Space is a fairly good place to store, display, and send your pics to others. Basically you upload your photos and create albums which you can send to others for viewing. You just have to send them the link that is associated with that album. If you use this service, can you please tell me how to have the comments that I add to each photo show up when someone views them.

As an example, here is a one photo album with a pic taken with my cell phone while my wife was driving past the church.

Thanks.

I like to photograph airshows and have a question regarding the use of Vibration Control while tracking fast moving aircraft.
I shoot with a Nikon D750, fast shutter speed and auto focus set to continuous. ISO and aperture are set according to conditions.
My question is does VC, when activated, interfere or slow down the continuous auto focusing, tracking function? Should I turn VC off when shooting action? Any advice would be appreciated.

The question of whether to turn stabilization off or on haunts many of us, especially as it relates to use with a tripod. I shoot many BIF with Nikon and want sharp images. Accordingly I read many opinions on the subject as well as the lens’ manuals. Perhaps more importantly, I practiced in the field shooting literally thousands of shots both ways.
The results are that I get more sharp keepers while using stabilization – with or without a tripod. Therefore, my unscientific advice is to leave it on.

As has been suggested here many times, go practice on sea gulls and make your own decision. You will have fun doing it and you will discover the method that best suits your equipment and shooting abilities.

She is not as red as I see farther north.

The face and body look especially different. As a comparison, here are two that I shot through my back window in NJ (thermal pane).

Remember, Sears isn't really Sears. K-mart bought out Sears and Roebuck back during the Clinton Admin, when K-mart was facing bankruptcy. (yes it was a strange deal.) And now K-mart and dragged the old Sears name into the trash bin along with their own.

You said it!! I did not know that K-mart bought Sears. Oh well.

Went to "Sears" the other day to exercise my "Lifetime warranty" on a Craftsman tool that had a clear mfg defect. They said there were no lifetime warranties and I would have to buy another tool. I remember years ago Sears would even replace a worn screwdriver under that promise.

NO more Craftsman tools for me!! To me, lifetime means LIFETIME. (or eliminate the Sears store name -- K-mart should honor the promises made by the entity they bought)

How do I set-up an on-line host site to post my photos on for viewing by friends?

1. Host site recommendations
2. Photo size to discourage theft
3. The software needed to reduce a 14 MB RAW file down to a "small", viewable size for storage.
4. Anything else I should know about that I haven't considered?

Thanks in advance!

Take a look at Nikon Image Space.

It seems Carryspeed has had enough of product liability lawsuits and has officially stopped selling their products in the USA. This has been a long standing issue and in 2016 they lost several lawsuits over camera damages caused by their system and have pulled out. You can still but they on Amazon and Ebay but they ship from sellers in Korea, China and the Phillipines.

I have one and I love it. It has a safe two point attachment, its comfortable and easy to adjust, and is very well made. In my opinion, I would even say it is a great product. I still use it often and need no other at the moment.

In many states, including NY, it's against the law to have anything blocking any part of the windshield, and that would include fuzzy dice, GPS, and dashcams. It's one of those things they can add on when they pull you over for something. Naturally, they don't count all those state inspection and registration stickers. :)

Nor do they count the rear view mirror that is in the middle of your windshield, or the visor to block the sun.

Umm; wonder if all the radar eq., gun barrel, and other crap the cops have in their view is against the law?

I used a good routing app - forget the name - but it gobbled up my data. I didn't have the phone plugged in, either, so it gobbled up my battery.

I totally understand, we all watch our expensive data usage. However, be aware that some phone apps use a lot more data and battery than necessary to do the job. Google nav / map app is efficient and its data use is not that bad -- give it another try. It even warns you about traffic conditions. Also, good to keep the phone plugged into power while using it.

BTW, with the Google Project fi cell service, you only pay for the data that you use. It is a good deal.

I clicked the download link and to me the photo is fairly sharp. Small branches are view-able, is this actually an excessive soft photo? The eagle is a long distance away and it's detail will not show. Crop the photo on the eagle, see how it looks.

Couple of my photos below are post a half mile. First is cropped, second is heavy cropped. I am surprised I can see it's eye-

NICE shot!! For a half mile away -- very impressive.
