Whoa! That kinda fired ol' Gitzy up. Looks like Gitzy had too many snuggies when going up. I see him as the kid in the corner with dark rings under his eyes. But what ever you do, don't upset him! Woo Whee!

I was a surgeon and Emergency Room Doctor, but that is rather beside the point. Most local property taxes are spent on schools, and in some cases it is an enormous amount of money. But as usual the amount spent has no reflection in the results obtained. Parochial and charter schools spend much less per student and get much better results. This is undoubtedly due tot he fact that the student population in these schools is preselected for success, which brings us to the looming crisis, namely a half million Spanish speaking kids of various ages, suddenly "dumped" onto our public schools. This is bound to involve higher than ever demands for money to deal withe the special needs of these kids, and it is bound to degrade to some extent what our kids will be getting. Obama created this crisis, but he is letting us - in our towns and villages deal with it, and pay the cost of his folly.

I stand chagrined. You obviously know about the teaching field and your career is/was certainly more than noble. You answered my tirade in a calm and specific manner and I respect that. Guess I kind of 'jumped the gun' so to speak.
Indeed, the schools have an enormous responsibility that I don't see going away anytime soon. Stir into the pot, students with special needs, Out of control discipline, over reactive parents, lack of administrative support, insubstantial pay, ( I have not received a raise in two years and lost $5,000 per year when Scott waker was elected-but that is another story,)that I bagged it up after 34 years of public instruction and now I have a teaching job in the Easteren province of Saudi Arabia - I just arrived 3 days ago. things are beginning to look up and appear much better now. Thanks for your repost and good luck in the future.
Good luck in what you do...

jwentz,,,no, you won't tell me anything. simple solutions are best, how about parents reading with their children at home? how about parents helping them learn?

and her last 2 sentences deal with the totality of what property taxes pay for, and yes those taxes being spent should be used wisely.

now, i will say to you, what you said to her, sit down and shut the fuck up.

Sure be glad to. You ain't that much fun to talk with any way.

ummm, can you not read? the post is about tax increases to pay for educating illegal aliens. not the deplorable state of the education system in this country, of which you are obviously a graduate.

I think my reading is ok. Perhaps you should look at what's-her-names last two sentences.... 60% & 40% equals 100% percent that is given to education & first responders. She said " that money is NOT well spent. Granted, our education system is going over some bumpy roads, but teachers can't do it alone. We need parents and community members who care and are willing to work WITH the system. we are all in this together, like it or not. I'll tell you one thing, calling our ED. system deplorable and bitching about it will NOT help. We need solutions. Kids will not go away, and they don't learn by themselves. They are products of all of us in many shapes and forms. "We" all need to do our part. The children really do need all of us.

The topic should read "taxes". Before this children's invasion is over there will be an estimated half million of them here, and our schools are paid for mostly out of the pockets of homeowners and property owners. In NJ I was paying 1200 a month just to live in my own, completely paid-for, small, 3 bedroom, house. Which, when I retired on a fixed income, I had to sell and move to NC so I could afford to live. We pay enormous amounts on schools. Even here in rural NC 60% of my taxes goes to schools and the remaining 40% to police, fire, and all the other county agencies. And judging by the output, that money is NOT well spent.

Seems as though you were not a first responder either. What ever you did as employment you must have been good 'cause you "shore due sound smart".

Instead of sitting back and complaining about the education system, if you're retired, then chip in and volunteer. I know I'm going to hear it from the cantankerous retired republicans 'cause us teachers are like blood sucking ticks that drain american communities of all life. Tell you what - that is not true, and before one starts pissing and moaning about the education system, walk a mile in a teachers shoes and THEN see what you think. I'm not sure I know what your career was, but I'm sure it is or was worthy and I'm not so ignorant that I am going to slam it. 'Know why? Unless it was a teacher, ( Which I am quite sure it was not) I didn't do it, so I'm not going to knock it. Don't sit on your puffy patoot, get up and help the education system if you feel it is failing - better yet, run for school board. Otherwise how 'bout a nice warm cup of shut the "F" up. Thank you and I support this message.
