I have Spectraview calibration software and it allows for a viewing as well as a printing profile. The viewing profile sets the monitor much brighter than the printing profile.

Good advice, will do just that.

Should I ask them if they use my photos to give me credit for them - I don't think that having my name next to one of my shots is too much to ask for.

Thanks for your time.

That's a tough one. You own the copyright but they own their image or likeness, so you can't really publish without their OK. I think your approach to ask if they would be kind enough to credit you with any publishing they might do could be the best way.

I believe copying files to archival DVD is a good approach for storing files with less activity. I store images chronologically then use LightRoom or Aperture to categorize based on keywords. When I have a DVD worth I copy it off to DVD and keep it in a safe place. I currently still have room for everything on drives I have running but if space gets low I will look at how often I access the oldest material and free space by moving the active copy to a DVD or removable/external hard drive which I can store.

Any business engagement should begin with a statement of work. It should stipulate what is the responsibility of the provider as well as things that are not provided including a copyright. Since many people may not be aware of what that means spelling it out in the formal SOW is a good idea. The statement is then used to apply a price for the contract.

Since the shooting event has already occurred you can't make claims referring back to a SOW. If they want full size digital copies I would only provide that with a copyright overlay and then reluctantly. Previous suggestions to provide scaled down versions or proofs seem reasonable.

The only issue I have experienced is with a macro lens and focus. As stated in another thread I got a CamRanger which allows me to focus from my iPhone on any area in the frame. I have had to change zoom a bit allowing more frame area so that the center brackets are hovering over a "good" area or in other words not over a blank ambiguous image area. Doing this seems to prevent focus hunting when in auto focus mode. This arrangement also helps since I have difficulty focusing through the eyepiece. The zoom out does lower the image resolution of the intended frame area but there is still plenty for my needs.

I decided to get a CamRanger and I find it an excellant addition to my toy chest. The ability to capture finely incremented focus series is superb. Just the ability to focus on screen with an iPad touch on the focus area needed works really well. Then I discovered it could be used quite far away if I wanted to capture wildlife. I setup the camera close to a bird feeder the squirrels visited and went back to my easy chair where I could watch on live view and record a video. Single shots seemed to scare the wildlife with the camera noise and so that use is limited.

You guys are awesome. I love home brewed stuff! I have a ReallyRightStuff tripod designed for ground level use. It is well built with a comparable price tag. The legs are about 10" with rubber bumpers on the back so when opened the bumpers are stabilizing it on the ground. The height above the ground is dependent on the ball head attached.

The coolest home brew I saw was made by Andrew Davidhazy where he made a platform that rotated and at the same time it wound the film rewind knob allowing a full 360 degree photo.

Super Black Widow - I have only seen one once and was a little bit less black than this one. Unfortunately I was showing the pest control guy around and when we had taken a good look he suddenly squashed it with his flashlight - no photos.

I purchased the D800e (without anti-aliasing filter) as I believe any adjustments to the image would be better done by me in post processing. I don't want the camera maker deciding how I want an image to look. I was a medium format film junkie holding out for a digital camera that would compare and I'm extremely pleased with it. I'm not going to ever buy a roll of film again.

You can always make a jpeg from a raw file so I would recommend raw only.

On another note....The July issue of Popular Photography has an article on shooting fireworks by "de-focusing". Essentially they describe approximately 1 sec exposure where the shot is initially out of focus, then brought into focus during the exposure.

Adobe has decided not to support network or removable media types (I assume) due to the complexity it would add to the existing function. You could have a copy on both but synchronizing would be a nightmare. This sounds like a good feature request. Maybe they will offer a cloud based storage option someday.
