Was lucky to come upon a Red Tail Hawks nest when babies were born. I stayed far enough away so momma wouldn't mind. I was able to take hundreds of photos, there were 4 babies born. I was there when each flew the nest. This was April 1 to May 21st.

Wow! Sensational shots! Lucky you for sure! Very nifty photos! Thanks for sharing! It's very cool to see the progression.

After seeing a couple of Sheepherders Monuments I wondered about their purpose. From what I could find out, all the usual things you might imagine like grazing boundary marker or point of reference to know where you are -- might be true for one or another of them, but the most logical reason is that a bunch of shepherds in the high country with nothing to do all Summer but watch sheep just got bored and started piling up rocks.

In Iceland at the beginning of a trail each person puts a rock on the pile if it is your first time there. Nice shot!

Hey guys I am 86. I have a Nikon d300 but am lusting for a d800e. I have a pretty grotty left knee, wonky heart though it seems to be keeping good shape under the 8 pills I take. If I kick the bucket soon all that cash in the sink. Any thoughts on what I should do ?

My Dad had terminal cancer and wasn't really expected to live more than a month or so more when he bought some big luxury car. My sister and I about had a heart attack! He enjoyed that car to the fullest the next few weeks. Cruising and smoking his cigar... That's what it's about to me... Enjoying to the fullest while you are here! Who knows, you may inspire who ever inherits!

On another spin, my father had an uncle he inherited from. He asked him why he never went on vacation or spent any money, since he had accumulated quite a hefty sum. The answer, " to some people, spending money is the fun, to me, making money is the fun!"

Do what makes you happy, that will make the ones who truly care about you happy also. Buy the camera!

This is the 32nd year of a wonderful, free event in Reno, Nevada. Shot with an HS50 EXR using scene mode. The distance from the launching site is probably a quarter mile on a hillside opposite the park. Comments invited.

What a super event! That first balloon is very creative, nice shots!

I encountered this interesting long-billed curlew yesterday in a local park. Unfortunately, I would have loved to have gotten a better flight shot of him, but he took me by surprise when he took to the air leaving me struggling to adjust my camera, but at least I managed to get one in-focus shot of him flying.

I also encountered this great blue heron who was strutting around the beach like he owned the place! :)

Wow! Those are absolutely wonderful shots. They are an inspiration to this amateur! Thanks for posting!

It's a relative of a grasshopper - called a katydid. One difference - grasshoppers have short, stubby antennae, katydids have long slender antennae - often longer than their body.

Nice to know!

No I don't want to start a debate and I don't like the phrase "the best camera is the one you have" which to me is a copout. I have been into cameras since 1972, I have
both Minolta and Nikons film cameras, I preferred the Min-
oltas, srt101 in particular, much sharper picture than the
Nikon F.
Now to dslrs, again Minolta Dimage a1 took better pictures
than my Nikon D80, my Minolta broke and they are out of
the camera business.
Now I have a Canon T4i but still thinking about Nikon, and
I want know, all things being equal, which of the two takes
the better pictures, side by side comparison.
No I don't want to start a debate and I don't like... (show quote)

Lets begin this post again! Welcome we are glad to have you here! I'm an amateur but love both my old Canon and my new Nikon! They both take good photos but the guys with the better equipment get better photos. (Could be they are better photographers) Show us some photos, would like to see your style!

Nice shot! Grasshopper focus good on the download. The faces on insects, bugs always amaze me! It's like, I know that guy, now what was his name?

Which is better DSLR, Nikon or Canon?

It depends who you ask! I just upgraded from an old Canon to a Nikon because I felt they had a better buy. I'm beginning to really like my Nikon but its been a battle since I loved and knew everything about my old Canon, that I still use at times. Are you looking to buy a camera or starting a debate?

By the way, Welcome to the Forum!

Anyone ever hear of "Porter Ridge," a new reality TV show?

It's on Discovery channel, and it sure is different. Check it out here:

Yahoo, y'all!

I took another look at the last episode since our favorite country home cooking restaurant, Chambers, was going to be featured. The waitresses are patient and nice. I have never seen anyone behave like him in the restaurant. We all can't wait to get to the homemade food. After you have a bite of that comfort food, everyone is your best friend and we all have Cheshire grins. I was surprised when the Bikers for Christ were on. Their church has been around for many years. They are a definite asset to the community and I think that was portrayed pretty well. I saw a trend I hope will continue throughout the show. Only the star behaves like an idiot.
