A couple of years back I bought a set of Vanguard Alta Pro legs... without a head, as
I had a generic pistol grip head. The legs were plenty to safely
hold my D700 and lenses. Same goes for the generic head, but
the margin of support ability of that generic head was not as good as the legs; hence
my interest in the for sale forum... and a week or so ago,
noticed a very nice Alta Pro pistol grip ball head for sale
for $85us... ($117aud)... a bargain for my favourite type of head,
but postage down to Australia would have taken the gloss off that deal.

So I surfed the Australian for sale sites and found an Alta Pro head with
legs... exactly the same as the legs I already had (the very versatile and
sturdy Alta Pro 263AT)... for... $84aud... that's $60us for the head, legs
and two double locking QR plates delivered...
Australia Post being Australia Post, means thrown over your
front fence, but hey, it was packed well and unscathed.

It needed a couple of Allen bolts tightened and a squirt of Inox... now the
unit's 100% ... that sells new on the net down here for $295...

A couple of years back I bought a set of Vanguard ... (show quote)

I've had the vanguard carbon fiber model for over six years and have been very happy with it. Recently one of the legs bottom adjustment (rubber foot screws in for spike ) froze up. I called vanguard for another leg and they said that that model is not in production any more and to send it in for full replacement. I sent it in and they were able to repair it at no cost (replacement would have at no cost either). Great company !!

This is the last installment of Machu Picchu. As you can see I included a house for common people and one for a higher range in the Inca society. You can appreciate the perfection of the last building. In the photo number 4 if you download it you can see the Hiram Bingham road making the zig-zag through the montain. This road drive from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of Machu Picchu.

Thanks so much for your trip photos. How did you get the photos without the hundreds of visitors?

I purchased a Vanguard tripod several years ago. I’ve been pleased with it but for one minor problem with the quick release plate button. Pressing it in sometimes took some fiddling around. I finally got tired of having to do that so I contacted Vanguard. They advised me to return the ball head to them, which I did. Within 2 weeks they I received a replacement at no charge even though I was well outside the warranty period. I’m posting this in praise of the manner in which they took care of the problem. When in need of a tripod I would certainly recommend Vanguard.

I have had a vanguard tripod for a number of years(at least 5). My tripod has rubber feet that can unscrew into spikes. One of them would not unscrew leaving the spike exposed, I called vanguard hoping to replace the bottom foot. The model was discontinued, they said to send it in and they would replace it. I didn't see one that could exactly replace it so I said to repair or replace the tripod. They repaired the foot and sent it back at no charge. What a great company.

Hi!
I’m retired and married.
My wife & I love to travel. We have a 29 ft. Jayco trailer and recently concluded a 5,000 plus mile adventure over a 30 day period.
I love photography (haven’t had time to do much in the past), and hope to get into it more.

Welcome aboard, I'm retired also and my wife just retired so we're planning some trips in our 29' keystone. Post some photos when you get a chance.

Grabbed the full frame camera and 18-300 lens for a shoot at an auto junk yard. Figured that lens would cover everything so I only brought that lens. Well the lens I grabbed was for my crop sensor camera. DUH!! At least all wasn't lost I had some nice vignetted photos.

I have heard that birding at the tourist center in Ocean City, NJ is very good. Anyone been there?

Answer is yes. You need to get there early (before 10 AM) as the sun comes up the birds tend to hide. You can get BIF and usually around this time nests with eggs and little guys.

Beware of the altitude (over 9,000 ft) in Quito, altitude sickness symptoms are something to be aware of. Kinda knocked my socks off for a few days. Try to get to the equator museum in Quito it was pretty cool. Galapagos was awesome, be careful of your gear on the zodiac could get sprayed . Enjoy your trip and bring back some awesome images to show us.

I just bought the ai mix pro adjustment and can't get it to sync. I updated to the new studio and still nothing. Site says to log in and I don't see anywhere on studio to log in. I even tried to try the trial aimix blue button and nothing. Any suggestions?
