Why not compress the file into a ZIP container and send an actual image? If I was running a photo contest / display of group submissions and you sent me a PDF, I'd reject the submission.

I just discovered that it's just as easy for me to make a .zip file version as it is to make a PDF version. It that is easier for the recipient, I can do that. I was afraid he would need download a special file to un-zip it.

Why? Would a zip file be easier to handle than the PDF version? I don't know if he can handle a "Zip Container".

I called Apple support and explained the problem to them. He suggested that I convert the image to a PDF file before sending it. I then sent it to both him and another friend. My other friend reported back that it showed up on his Apple iPad as an unopened file. On my MacBook it only takes two key strokes to convert a file from JPG to PDF. I hope this solves the problem.

I just sent myself an image. I attached a "file". It appeared as a photo in the message that was returned to me. I could recover the "File" by doing a "Control-tap" on the image. I use an apple computer. I'm sure Windows as a similar way of recovering the file. Can some of you Windows users tell me how you recover the file from the image when you see it. I could then let the guy I'm sending my message to how to do it. (I suspect it's something like left mouse.)

I am a Mac user. For our camera club submissions we resize our photos to 1920 on the long side and 1080 on the short side, this is equivalent to 16x9. I use PS but am sure it is possible in LR, go to “image” and click on image size and make your changes there, then save as a copy and choose JPEG, when the next dialog box pops up make sure your image is 2mb or less, if it is greater move the slider from 12 down until you get a suitable size. This will not degrade the quality of your image. When you wish to email the image, initiate the email first and then add as an attachment and keep as actual size. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I also use PS.

The problem has nothing to do with image file size. The problem is the guy I'm sending the images to sees the image when he opens my email to him. He does not understand that the image file is already within the email. I have sent the image to a UHH member who uses Windows who was able to extract the image "file."

You can't fix stupid or bull headedness.

see the comment about the sending priority and / or double-check the address. emails sent to myself are arriving, along with my normal stuff. but no example bird nests.

I have now sent it to you twice. I'ts not that big of a file about 600 KB if I recall.

Patience grasshopper.

If the attachment is particularly large, say higher than 5MP, you might need to send 'high priority' to initiate an immediate transfer into the internet distribution ether world ...

It's already been sent to you.

I PM-ed you my yahoo email address. Please send me the same image / same manner. Maybe we can see the actual situation and discern the differences from what has been described.

Check your mail soon.

Yes, I attempted to send it to him different ways, including the original size.

Somehow he seems to think that I sent the image and not the image file. Computers work from digital files (ones and zeros) If he can see the image he has the file. What he tells me makes no sense!

There comes a point that one realizes that he is talking to brick wall. I give up. It's not worth alienating him any further. I know I'm a good photographer and do not need a blue ribbon to assure me. I still enjoy seeing what other photographers in the club do. At least I know that UHH members can see my work at it's best.

I resized it and sent it again. This was the response:

"David,

The issue was not the size.
The issue was you sent an “image”.
I asked for a “file”.
No worries, I will work with what you sent me."

I don't even understand what he is trying to tell me!

If your camera club is like mine, there is a size limit on the size of the file/image that is submitted. A full size file is not allowed. Way too much data. They are showing these on a screen in front of the crowd...not printing them out. I am not familiar with the email aspect of LR, but I export the selected image to a jpg with the specific size requirements of my club. (1400 pixels wide by 1280 tall.) I export it into a folder and then send the file via email. There is no need for file sharing or other machinations. The person (volunteer) putting the images together has not enough time in the day to receive the link, download massive amounts of data, then put it into the LR presentation along with all other submitted photos. I am betting that the person receives the files, puts them into LR or similar, for use by the club at the meeting and needs to move on.

As others noted, it is possible that the thing is being sent as an embedded image or something like that...send it as a file..a universally understood file that LR recognizes. Such as "Robins Eggs.jpg."

If you club does not have file size requirements, I can send you ours. They also have a file naming protocol as well which works as well.

I resized the export size from LR to 1400 pixels wide by 1280 tall and resent it to him. If this dose not work I'm out of tricks.

If something like 'original size' is an option, that's what you want - no changes by Apple in the transmission. You should be able to determine both the file size (bytes / MBs) and the pixel resolution of the file you're sending. Those same statistics should be received.

I think you are on the right track. Can you or someone suggest a file size that could be seen by the average non-skilled user and still preserve detail in my image. I could resize it in Photoshop.

The man I'm sending it too does not hesitate to destroy the quality of my images when I make his job hard.

This is an ongoing problem I have at the club. They destroy my image and the resulting images are pixelated putting me at a disadvantage.
