Maybe we should put kids into government and politicians into pre-school.

I recently ordered some bonsai pots from Amazon, they informed me they would come direct from China with a six week lead time. They arrived in five days. I think we could have a lot to learn from small Chinese business

Same situation here in the UK small towns gradually dying. When you can get almost everything you need in the supermarket or online, going to the little family owned store in town unfortunately becomes a chore.

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day.
He has his food prepared for him.
His meals are provided at no cost to him.
He visits the doctor once a year for his checkup and again during the year, if any medical needs arise.
For this he pays nothing ~ and nothing is required of him.
He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.
If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.
He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.
He receives these accommodations absolutely free.
He is living like a king and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.
All of his costs are picked up by others who earn a living.
I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks ~

If you ever get to visit England try to get to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, there is a memorial to 30,000 US airmen who gave their lives for freedom and who certainly kept the UK a free country. We owe them a debt we can never repay.

The winner always pleads innocence, years ago I asked my father what he thought of the Gestapo, he said they could have found recruits in the section of the British army he was in, RAOC, Royal Army Ordinance Corps. Every race and country has a few who aepared to go beyond the limits of reason and decency.

Gunnera manicata, not sure where they come from but fairly hardy in cool temperate regions like the UK. Related to rhubarb do well in waterside conditions

Given the threat that those kids faced in Normandy, I think most of today's kids would shape up. We, the older generation are largely responsible for the way kids are today, we are so busy giving them a better life than we had we tend to forget to pass on the principles our parents installed in us.

[Apparently so Re, Renium atomic number 75 is an extremely rare very hard metal with a valency of six in certain circumstances. It forms a chloride ReCl6. There is a sumary in Wilkepedia

uote=John_F]Having a background in chemistry, I have a problem with the depicted "leaf" molecule. It looks like a network of benzene rings but the interbonding looks suspect. At its right end it has an Re linked to the last two benzene rings with three CO molecules, one Cl molecule. This totals to 6 bonds so the Re must have a valence of 6. There is no Re element, however. Is there such a thing as a valence of 6.[/quote]

This is espallia pruning, it allows high density planting and easy access to the fruit when it comes to picking. Once established there is little pruning required to keep the trees in good fruitng shape. More suited to the small orchard where hand picking is the main method of harvesting, there might be a problem to mechanically pick from trees like this.

Seems to me that the "United states" is similar to the EU in a lot of ways and generally it works. We have borders between the states, we have economic and cultural differences, the federal government is seen as a dysfunctional body that always wants more money for fewer services. Each state has its own government and laws so while there are many differences there are also many similarities

Probably the greatest difference is the European general reluctance to renounce individual nationality. Ask pretty well any American his or her nationality and the answer is almost always American, perhaps followed by from some state or city and you generally speak or understand the same language. Ask the same of any European and the answer will not be European from where ever but a very positive Germany, France Etc, some speak several languages but most don't. I don't think the chance of France or Germany renouncing their nationality is on the cards for many years and certainly not the UK
