Yes, some people were asking the models to do this or that postures. I didn't feel like to ask because many people were there. You don't know if all of the photographers there like the posture you directed or not. There were experienced models and non-experienced models. I didn't chose good posting, only thought I would get some other advice like skin tone. I read a book talking about the color numbers (RGB) about the skin tone, so I thought people will give me some useful color numbers. Never thought about they hate the postures so much. And some people even attacked the models, and some people even attack me, doubting what grad that I got in school. Guess people are not all nice. But for answering the doubt, I can tell you that I have a Bachelor in chemistry, a Master in electronic engineering. And my grade in photography in school was 4.0.
Yes, it was good timing. The sun was going down, and provided a soft side light. I shot from right under the tree and used canon 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 IS L lens.
Nobody used flash. They set up 8 or 10 stages for us to shot. f2.8 was much easier, but the long lens f4.5-5.6 100-400mm was much harder. The photos are sharp but a lot noise at high ISO (like 1600). I had to use ISO 800 at f2.8, a lot higher at f4.5-5.6. In that situation, you have to get what you can. How about the one I just attached. I took this one years ago in my studio when I was studying photography in school. It's very sharp, but won't show on the small photo. Very easy to brush away skin texture on Photoshop. I used 5D MarkII, I have 5D MarkIII now, it's much better with low lights.
Thanks to everybody. They were high up. But I used long lens.
Yes, you are right, they are psuedo-HDR.
Yes, they are HDR. It was about 2 pm, Sun was very bright. I know it was not a good time to shoot, but it was the time I went with a friend. I handheld all of the shots because I forgot my tripod.
Hello every body, thanks a lot for the critique. I know that you guys only want to help. And I learn from the critiques. The event called "American Model Shooting" which is an annual event around America. Some big photographers' in NYC set up the lighting, and it did not have sufficient light for my lenses (f2.8 and f4.5-5.6). I have to set the ISO to 800 or higher. That is why they are not sharp as they should, but they are sharp as they can be, and I know focus on the eyes. There were more than 300 people attend the event, so shooting was not that easy, all handheld long lens . It made me laugh, saying that the first girl looks like sitting on a toilet, guess it's true. I kind like the mess hair though, looks natural. Models were pretty, no poor models, only poor photographer--me. I always hear about skin tone, the skin tone on those photos are correct or not? I think I will have to watch out the gesture, no toilet anymore.........hahaha. Hair light? I don't see the portrait artists use much hair light anymore (read from the magazines), from my understanding, sculpturing the face is important, right?
Hi Norman, Thanks for your kindness. I have a lot to learn about photography and glad that I can find people here who is expert to help me.
Thanks for the critique. I saw somebody put portrait photos here and got critique, so I thought I may get some as well. I don't do portrait often, and wish to learn it. I didn't light them. It was the host of the event put up the lighting, and we just shoot. Thanks to point out the hand was cropped off, I even didn't notice it, too careless I guess. What do I should do about skin tone, any suggestion?
Hahaha...........You are funny
There was a woodpecker family living in a huge tree in our backyard.
