Neighbor's dog, Winter. She was never on a chain. Went everywhere and visited everyone for treats. Used to spend a lot of time by us, and even went for walks with me. When she got older and deaf, I used to try to avoid her when going for a walk because she'd go into traffic. I'd come around a curve, and she'd be waiting for me with this grin a mile wide. She'd always find me because I'd walk a couple miles with my camera and a cigar. She'd pick up the cigar aroma and always manage to be waiting ahead of where I was going. Love to be petted, endlessly. One day, I decided to see how long she could go. I sat there for an hour, petting. When I stopped, she immediately flopped onto her back and offered up her belly. Meanwhile, there was a good sized pile of white hair on the ground - and my hand was black. I always told people not to put their hand up to their face after petting Winter. She was an inveterate outdoor dog - and the smells she picked up were close to being physical entities. But she was a babe. She got hurt, and her owner had to put her down. He invited me over to say goodbye to her before they took her to the vet. She was all shampooed and clean, but couldn't get up or walk (Had injured her spine falling into a hole). I got down on the floor and hugged her and kissed her. She looked at my like I was crazy, but we said out farewells. When I saw Ed's car come back later, I went in to the kitchen, sat with my mom, and cried like a baby.
