You might also want to try ImageJ.
It's an open-source Java-based image processing program.

Jaackil,
I'd encourage you to check out Photoline, a Photoshop-equivalent program developed by two brothers in Germany (cost ~$90). It works great (runs actions, etc.) - but their documentation is poor. It will run the Icorrect EditLab Pro plug-in filter (~$100 on sale) which will allow you to do your white balancing and color correction. You can download trial versions of both and check them out. You can check on the internet for Photoline reviews - I haven't seen it mentioned on the UHH forums yet. If you decide to change to Photoshop later, you can still use the plug-in and you are only out the ~$90 for the Photoline purchase.
I want to get a DSLR camera with lens (model not critical) for one of my college-age daughters for Christmas.
In exchange for your DSLR, I'd like to trade scanning/video transfer services. I will transfer your home videos to DVD for $24/2-hr DVD, and will digitize your prints for 0.30/ea, and your slides & negatives for 0.75/ea. If you have lots of videos, or slides, or negatives that you'd like to digitize, I'm sure we can work out a deal.
Email me if you would like more specifics or would like to see samples.
Thanks,
Paul
