Fran that makes at least two of us who do not know and at least one of us, me, will most likely not remember for the next time. Still I do get pleasure from recording the image as best I can. Thanks for your comment.

I like the fly shots in particular. I would like to have such an unexciting day. I just saw horrible enormous spiders today which sent me running.

I love spiders I prefer the small ones just because the large ones are hard to shoot true macro

I've been happy with Raynox for awhile but wonder what secret might there be? So far I have just snapped it on my sharpest lens and enjoyed the result.

I could not get acceptable images on my Sigma 105 mm went back to my old Lester a dine 105 mm and results have been much better my biggest issue is I am so used to using one-to-one macro I know exact distance I need to be so it is a lot easier to catch Focus quickly with the add-on lens much closer so not as easy to find

I've also been entranced and frustrated by these hyper vigilant shy flies. Haven't had your level of success yet. Haven't seen any this year, sadly seems absence spans the area. Fabulous images you make!!

I have nowhere near as many as I did last year they have not been as abundant

I have used Raynox lenses with great success and the results are sharp. DOF is determined by the magnification on the sensor. When you use extension tubes the effective aperture in decreased giving more depth of field. Raynox lenses do not change the aperture. No matter what lenses and other equipment you use macro photos and mags > 1X are difficult and focus stacking usually is desirable.

I have used everything like reversing lens in front of my macro lens have experimented with multiple diopter lens have used over 100mm of tubes with a 100mm macro lens also used full set of tubes with laowa 100mm 2X macro have shot from 1x up to about 4x the Raynox DCR 250 just does not suit my style of shooting moving insects handheld are too aggravating for me to do stacking so 2x is going to be about my limits. I get a smidge over 2x with full set of tubes and once I replace my Laowa 2x lens will get that natively if I was using mirrorless would have more options but Pentax full frame has me limited.

Hangman45, your work in the field is exceptional. There is a macro and then there is an extreme macro and the trials and tribulations between the two are worlds apart. We can get away with many things at 1:1 that are not forgiving at 2:1 and beyond where not only is the subject highly magnified, but so is everything else.

I enjoy your work and I am confident that you will take images with the Laowa 2X that will jump off the screen with sharpness and detail.

For the short time I had the Laowa loved it super sharp great color hated when it developed sticky aperture and had to return it and at the time was out of stock and Adorama had no idea when it would be so I spent money elsewhere but will replace it before spring. I have always got good results with tubes and even reversing another lens at end of 100mm macro just never had any luck with diopter style add ons they all make DOF so shallow that makes hard for me to use in my style macro.

I decided to compare Ext. Tubes to Raynox results haven't used my tubes in over a year get more magnification and better DOF with them compared to Raynox last 2 days have not really been ideal for testing higher magnification macro breezy and cloudy
