I love the close-ups of your granddaughter. She's a doll and clearly likes the camera.

Well I guess she should be used to being in front of it haha..If I don't have the camera out when we get together both kids are asking me where it is :)...The close-ups she is modeling her camping hat..that I gave her for Easter this year. Love it when she asks me to do a photo shoot...she always gets her way with that request.

That's great and I'm betting she gets her way quite a lot.

Hello all, I am living in Port Charlotte, Fl. and have resided here for almost 15 years. Previously, I have spent time in Idaho Springs, Co. and Isleford, Me. Originally from central Ohio. Just purchased an elaborate point and shoot, Fuji S4400. It has a lot of bells and whistles and I’m still a little intimidated. Looking to you all for critiquing and inspiration.
Thanks,
Jeff

Welcome Jeff, If that's you in the pic I'm jealous.

I try my best to help and rescue animals. Last night, someone who had heard of me came and surrendered 5 puppies to me. They could not keep them and did not want to just abandon them, thank goodness! A rescue organization that I work with came to the Everglades and picked them up, minus 1. This is one that I decided to keep. She just grabbed my heart as soon as I saw her. I named her Bird. She is a 6 week Pit and Cur. (and already spoiled!)

What a darling photo of the newest member of your family!

Thank you. That's her sweet side. Unfortunately, I will have to get her some help soon. This is a side of her that she kept from me.

what is firmware and should i install

Firmware is your camera's operating system. Go to this website and it'll explain what's in the new update. ( www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/standard_display/EOS7D_firmware ) As for if you should install, that's up to you. You definitely don't have to, some people probably won't for one reason or another but they won't have the updated features the camera now offers. If you need help please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks outsider.. I just got the camera so I guess I won't really notice any changes, but I know I've got the latest and greatest.. Let the fun begin.

I have been taking HDR shots for about three years now though I still count myself as a beginner. I look back at some of my early efforts and cringe at the over the top saturation etc (I am an expert on bad HDR because I have produced a lot of it) But I am a little more conservative with it now. I am a photomatix user and am very happy with the software but I also do some work in CS5 as well. be interested in any feedback.

Very nice.. I agree though that #2 is really a great shot, the depth, the lines, just a great capture..

Thanks Wahawk, I know what you mean, one sunset can yield a lot of different colors and pics.

I shot this sequence of my grand-daughter playing 3B on her HS Varsity Girls Softball team. The batter slapped the ball and it was a slow grounder toward 3B which my g-daughter charged, scooped up and threw to 1B throwing the batter out to end the inning.

I was shooting from a little past 1B using a Canon 50D + a 100-400mm L lens on a (shooters) Bi-pod. Av, f8, 1000 ISO, AI Servo @ 5fps. PP w/PSE8. Enjoy and comment if you wish.

Thanks debbyg, the 1st and 3rd were shot in a parking lot in Wilsonville, OR back in '06 when I was still working for a living. As you can see I wasn't working all the time.

These remarkable 19th century sepia-tinted pictures show the American West as it was charted for the first time.
The photos were taken by photographer Timothy O'Sullivan during Lt. George M. Wheeler's survey west of the One Hundredth Meridian --- 1871 to 1874.
They are the first ever taken of the rocky and barren landscape.
At the time federal government officials were traveling across Arizona, Nevada, Utah and the rest of the west as they sought to uncover the land's untapped natural resources.
