Yup. You got that right! My grandson, age 6, plays ice hockey on a local team. He is part time skater, and part time goalie. Even at such a young age, the league makes sure of needed protection. Well, when he is in goal, the bag to hold all the goalie equipment is humongous...for things like skates, helmet, gloves, chest protection, leg pads, socks, tape for the socks. His family has to transport all in a bag that looks something like this. Oh, and the goalie stick doesn't fit into the bag.

What fun!!! As he grows his parents get to buy new equipment!!! My oldest grandson just HAD to have a sliding glove for baseball because all the other kids had them. Heck, it's just a glorified oven mitt. 65 bucks. I don't understand why you need a sliding glove when you go feet first.

Perhaps they have a valid reason, such as West Texans do. We don't want more people - not because we're unfriendly or clannish (OK, we might be a little clannish) but because we do not have the one resource that is crucial for all life - water.

No good spots for reservoirs? East of you we've got them all over.

Please excuse my rant....but I'm really getting fed up with some people (okay...more than some) can't seem to contribute anything helpful. Maybe that's why I like coming to the UHH. For the most part everyone is as helpful as they can and when it warrants or in Chit Chat..funny.

While we were in the moving process and after we moved to Florida I was in some groups about moving to Florida. I put up with the negativity then because I was looking for information. Now that we've moved I'm there to help those looking to move to Florida. Unfortunately, there are a number of nabobs of negativity who have to complain about how bad they have it in Florida, be it traffic, the heat, bugs, or whatever. Then telling people not to move to Florida for whatever reason they have.

I've already left a few of them because of this....but it still frustrates me. Yeah...I know I'm old and this is what the inter webs has become.

Please resume your normal programming.

Speaking of which. WHY would you move to Florida when you could move to the great state of TEXAS????

You know I'm pulling your leg, friend!!

When the Burma Shave signs were on the other side of the road, my older brother and I would remember alternate signs and the work out the correct rhyme! Luckily speed limits were lower in those days.
Thanks for bringing those memories....

You're right. I remember when going 55 was fast on the highways.

I generally don't enjoy reading fiction that much. Especially negative, gloomy, depressing fiction. That kind of fiction does not suit my personality. I'm usually as person who seeks the upside of things.
I saw a great bumper sticker a while ago that used the symbols of all the major religions of the world to spell out the word "fiction"

Then again, you don't know a lot about it, do you. You just dismiss it outright.

We liked the movie but saw it after reading the book. We both were weeping after reading it. Frankly, the book was better (IMHO). But my wife and I like to read real paper page books.

Same thing with Gorky Park. There was just so much more detail in the book.

For over forty years we lived near a lake in Dallas that is 10 miles in circumference. Throughout the year it is home to many migrating species of birds, but never eagles. Don't you know it, once we moved a pair of eagles arrived. The first year they built a nest in a tenuous cottonwood tree and the limb it was on was blown down during a high wind. This year they've finally got the art of nest building down and are the parents of two chicks. The long lenses of local photographers have gotten some excellent photos. They can be seen in the fb group White Rock Lake! that's my hood

Neither Russia nor the United States existed when Revelation was written.

And yet it talks about the Bear. That is typically interpreted as being Russia. It doesn't mention the Eagle. Remember, Revelation is prophecy.

I think I must really be old. I didn't know what GAS was, so I looked it up. Apparently it is Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

I think Rosanne Rosanna Danna defined GAS the best: "if it's not one thing it's another.""

It is just terrorists on their own soil. More than 70 percent of the Palestinians voted for Hamas and they still support them, so they are siding with the terrorists. That makes them part of the terrorist problem. The only reason not to just bonb away is because they would still like to rescue the hostages.

The bigger problem that you still choose not to address is that they refuse to acknowledge the right of Israel to exist. How do you negotiate with someone who takes that stance? The Palestinians have never had their own nation, and when Israel was first recognized they had options of places to settle and chose not to take them.

As to Germany being OK with Jews existing their that might be true, but the reason the Palestinians were so eager to ally with Germany was because they wanted to eradicate Jews just like Germany, and tjat is still their wish.

A two state solution was offered in '48. Sometimes people don't take something that in the end turns out to be a good idea. What if Kissinger, during negotiations with the North Vietnamese had come to the table one day and said, "we accept your proposal to divide the country at this point."

You can buy a book of Burma Shave Sign Sayings on Amazon

"Verse by the Side of the Road: The Story of the Burma-Shave Signs and Jingles"

Why buy a book? In a previous post I listed a website that has the various "sayings" listed as they came out by year. You don't need to find my post, just Google Burma Shave signs and you can find it for yourself.

One thing to take into consideration is Israel's history. When attacked in the past it has responded decisively until its foe was vanquished. Others have learned that lesson, you'd think Hamas would have known it. So, put the blame for all of this on Hamas for one for not knowing their history.

No G A S here. Years ago, I purchased some basic fishing gear, then fished rivers, lakes, from shore, from boats, summer, winter, fishing Charter trips, and the ONLY fish I caught was at a Trout pond! Fish laugh at me! I got tired of all the laughing and gave all the equipment away! Never again!

If my son had wanted to go I would have been interested in chartering a boat to go out into the Gulf to go after some good fish like Redfish. If you go in with a couple of other people, the price of a charter can be reasonable, but he wasn't interested.
