It is a variety of what is commonly known as a day lily.

I don't hate snakes, but I have a contempt for people who turn them loose in an environment that is not prepared for their presence.

Nice shot. Look up some you tube videos on 'roadrunner v. rattlesnake. Roadrunners can kill rattlesnakes.

There is a fairly common philosophy in the world today. "What is mine is mine and what's yours is mine too if I can get hold of it"
Respect for other people's things is almost non-exisent these days.

One of the basic flaws of the English language is that if it has become common usage, it then becomes 'correct' usage. An example is the word preventive. That is the original correct usage. But so many began using the word 'preventative' that now dictionaries show both pronunciations as correct.

As far as I can tell, many modern word processing programs only put one space after a period.
As to the problem of less precision, I think it is a common problem in most places. Where I live folks do not like precise instructions for doing something. They like to come back later (when they aren't doing something as per instructions) and say, "I am not sure that's how you wanted it done". Bottom line; they like less precision, as a way to avoid responsibility.

I saw a sign in a flea market that I could identify with. "Only in America do we leave a car worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage."

I left my home state forty years ago. On my most recent trip back to visit, I told them all that it was depressing. When they asked why, I said it was because THEY had all gotten old.

I don't remember the year but I do remember when it was announced that Checker would cease production. I heard that were pretty durable cars.

I have bought some stuff from them. Mostly household nick-nacks. I have been happy with the experience. The stuff is usually shipped from a California address and their shipping is well packaged and on time.

I too had a black 1958 Olds for a short while, it also had the J2 engine option which meant it had 3 2barrel carburetors. Lots of chrome inside and out. My dad used to say you had to shut the engine off at the gas pump to gain on it.

Mine didn't have three carbs, but had cover plates on the intake where they could be installed.

Great pic. Agreed that the composition is beautiful.
What you photographed is the blossom and not the seed. Birches have male and female trees. What is pictured is the male tree. The blossom on the female tree is very inconspicuous. Please see the attached link.

The male flower is conspicuous, yellow, hanging down. The female flower is inconspicuous.

I had one when I got married in 1966. It was black, and I think the engine was called the J-2. The shift lever was on the column with reverse at the bottom, if I remember correctly. It was a pretty comfortable car to ride in.
