Yes, It makes managing those long or heavy (300 f2.8) lenses a snap... Try one and you will instantly know what I mean...
Thanks
AF, always... This lens with the TC on it focuses with no hesitation and fast is an understatement.
I just switched from Nikon and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed so far. I've always want a 500 lens. Now I know what others have been saying for such a long time, gotta love that 500... It's a beast though, got to have a gimbal head to manage it.

Sorry for the busy background but hey, nature doesn't always pose in the perfect spot!

Oh that's funny......... Thanks
Love the Eagle shot Gary. I just picked up the 500 F4 lens and haven't had a chance to take it out for a spin yet, we are in a deep cold snap right now in Arizona (can you believe that)... By the time it warms up today the sun is going to be pretty high. Might try it at sunset with the hummingbirds that have made it through last nights freeze...
Trying to pick up a good used 1.4x III but they are hard to come by! Might have to get it retail, if push comes to shove...

I am an ametuer and have three Canon L lenses and 1.4 extender iii. The 24-70 F2.8L ii, the 70-200 F2.8L IS ii, and the 400mm F5.6L. Although the 400mm is not an IS lens, you can handhold with decent light. I believe these three lenses and the extender should take care of most of your needs. I will attach three recently taken wildlife images, taken with the 400 (Eagle handheld) and the other two 400/1.4 combination on a tripod. I submitted to a local professional wildlife photographer for critique at our camera club, will know his opinion in about two weeks. I hope this helps. Gary

Hey Canon Shooters,
I just switched over to Canon after being a long time Nikon person and I'm looking for a good lens to shoot people with.
I'm not professional but like taking family shots and i'm going to be taking candid wedding photo's for my brother. I am very critical when it comes to my photos so I'm looking at the quality of the image a lens will give me. For Nikon it was the 24-70 f/2.8 lens but not sure which one does the trick for Canon, maybe the same one?
I'm shooting with the 5D MkIII, really enjoy it so far. Primary interest is Wildlife but need to do these family things once in a while and I want them to be great, not just good.
Appreciate all your input and if you have questions don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks

What did you use when you used Nikon !!!?
I used Nikon's 24-70 f/2.8 lens, it was one heck of a lens. Being new to Canon I wasn't sure which ones were considered the HOT lenses to get. I know all about most of the Nikon ones but got a lot to learn about Canon. I figure I really can't go wrong with any of the "L" lenses for quality!
Thanks for ALL the input folks. Looks like I'll put the funds together for the 24-70 2.8 II, although that 24-105 shot "Atchy" is tac sharp. I've been known to pick up clean used lenses just to try them out and this one is worth a look at. A lot of those posted for sale also, I think for the right price it's worth a try, it definitely offers a lot more focal length options.
Again, thanks for all the input folks. It's always good to hear other photographers input.
Rob
Jim,
You hear any comments on the F4 IS v.s the F2.8 IS II that's out? Wondering if I should opt for the older version v.s twice the cost for the newer one. I understand the 2.8 will give me the low light option but not sure how well the F4 works..
Any input would be great.
Thanks
I'm good on the wildlife lenses (100-400 "L" and 500 F4 "L") Just looking for a really good people lens.
I did ready a lot of personal reviews on the 24-105 lens and it seamed to be a hit or miss lens. Some folks really like it and other felt it fell short on the image quality end. That's why I posted this, to get more input.
I'm scaling down the number of lenses I had when it was all Nikon and just want one lens to photograph people.
Thanks
Now this is the shot I try to go for but nature doesn't always react the way you want them too. :-)
Incoming!!!

Just converted to Canon from a long time Nikon shooter and this was one of my first Canon shots with the new 5D Mk III and the 100-400 "L" lens.

Go to my web site www.az-pics.com and click on one of the hummingbirds pics at the very top of the page. That will get you to the right photo gallery. Find the pic you want info on and put your mouse pointer on the large picture on the right and a fly out menu will pop out front the right hand side of the pic. Click in the blue "i" and it will give you all the photo details.
Camera Nikon D7000, lens is the 300 prime lens with a 1.7tc, had a fairly high iso setting to get a sharper image...
