Apparently car shows were the place to be today. Great place to lie on the ground with a camera and look silly. I'm trying hard to not look embarassed when I do it. Comments on these please?? I can take it.

I share your thoughts whenever I look at my 16 year old Jack Russell Terrier that I have loved her entire life. I saw this recently....

"He whom we love and lose...is no longer where he was before. He is now wherever we are!"

Also....read Racing in the Rain (Garth Stein)It's about human/dog loving and losing from the DOG's point of view.Great stuff.

Strawberry season has begun in MD. I picked these fellows, photographed them and then sat down and ATE them! I hope the pattern does not persist.

Truth be told, I took this photo late last summer. I won't look for them in my neighborhood until around July. Then, they will be everywhere. This one got my attention because she decided to build on my porch!

Yes, jdeanb,I loved to watch her work. I put a piece of a leaf on the web and she came running (or whatever you'd call it). When she figured it wasn't edible, I watched her use her legs to shake the web so it fell off. Very tidy little lady.

Sorry Sarge. You need to rethink your attitude about these critters. They are so easy to photograph and their habits are fascinating. Here's a common garden spider (female). Her mate is much smaller and hiding somewhere in the grass.

I've used Art.com several times with great results. I didn't know Walmart did them too. I need to compare prices.

WOW....thanks for your comments, Erv. Retirees can be pretty focused when we want to be. I am determined to go as far as I can but I want this hobby to be only for fun. In the last year I've taken 3 8-week courses with Betterphoto.com. That was the best decision I could have ever made. I also took a photoshop course at a local community college. I think the structure of these classes got me off to a good start. My next Betterphoto.com class starts next week. I can't wait!

Like a number of folks, I've been lurking for a few months and finally decided to jump in. My Canon 2Ti was a 2011 Xmas present from my husband. I've been having a ball...taking classes, reading everything I could get my hands on and taking pictures/pictures/pictures. I have a LONG way to go! I have already gotten a load of good tips here.....the rest, I don't yet know enough to understand.
