That is: grow pineapples in Southern California.
My wife has been successful many times and here's
the photo to prove it. And also what she did and how
she did it.
Take a store bought ripe pineapple and cut the top off
leaving about 3/4 to 1 inch of fruit below the crown.
Let this dry out for about 2 to 3 days and then plant.
When you plant it be careful not to put it where vermin
like raccoons or possums can get them because they will.
She plants ours in pots against either a west or south
block wall (they hold the suns' heat) and wait about
two years for them to produce fruit. Fresh pineapple
is great on the grill (with a little butter and brown sugar
or maple syrup) and goes well with pork, chicken or fish.

What does she use for soil?

Those who might have the Canon 1d mark3 and 7d, is the 1d better in low light shooting higher ISO with less noise? Any other pros or cons?
Found a 1d mark3 for $800. Serial number 553XXX with blue dot on box. Do not know shutter count yet. I am trying to figure if there is enough difference to be worth it.
I follow South African photographer Isak Pretorious on FB.He won an award from the British Wildlife Assoc last year. He lists his hardware and settings with every photo he posts.
When I contacted him re which camera he liked to use the most this was his gracious reply :
"The best value for money at the moment is picking up a good second hand Canon 1D Mark III. They go for about US$ 600 and is still a fantastic camera with super autofocus and 10 frames per second."
He also stated that the 1dx was what he liked best, but on his FB postings I have counted no fewer than 10 different cameras that he's used and it's interesting to compare the pictures from each.
This is a young man who can, and does, use all the best canon and Nikon has to offer. Hope this info helps you to make a decision.

I know you are right about this community, I've been 'lurking' for awhile and already have so many questions answered.
Glad you like the pics.
Thank you...I'm surprised how quickly you all responded. I'm going to really like this. I am having a bit of a problem getting everything in focus...have a tripod on order..hoping that is helpful.

I do believe you're pulling our collective legs, as these are not
"entry level" photos....LOL Welcome to the forum.
OMG thank you for that, but , really, we're talking a d3100 here and only a short time trying to figure it out..I am saving up for another camera and lens (the dog ate this one...long story)
Hello everyone, new person here with entry level skills, would welcome your opinion on these shots. Right from the camera, haven't learned Lightroom yet, but that is next on the list with your help.
Just blew this up to full screen on my 27 inch I Mac....the textures changed into a wonderful abstract...think you will have fun with this.
Bob, may I ask what camera and lens you used for this shot?
