Lens Body Condition: 9. NOTE - this lens it typical of this model...it has "the wobble" but it is COMPLETELY normal. I had it checked out at a local camera shop and all of their NEW 28-135s did the same thing. It has NO effect on the lens whatsoever.

OP -You need to be at 1/640 ss to really freeze your action.
When the subject is moving, try setting your camera to "AI Servo" focus mode....not sure what the Nikon equivalent is. Panning with the subject. And using a FAST shutter speed. You'll need good light or high ISO setting if light is not good.
Shooting RAW takes some of the pressure off of a beginning photographer, such as myself, with regard to WB as windshoppe said. Some times a setting might be forgotten, and RAW allows a little more chance for recovery.
