Tried to get some shots last night. Ended up trailing @ 20 seconds. Going to try again tonight using 15 second exposures and take some dark frames for stacking!

Really striving to get some colours out of the cluster.

For now I'll upload this stitch.

Nice work! What camera are you using?

GC If it's blk & white you are interested in try Topaz it' on sale right now with the code "qaep13bw", for $30.00. I think today or tomorrow the sale ends. Great product...Rich

I was just looking at the Topaz site. It is not obvious whether this is a stand-alone program, or a plug-in for something like PS or LR. The price is good until the 19th.
Can you give me any more info on it?

Thanks.

Excellent service! You should let your bosses know how much good this sort of problem-response does for the company! I don't know how many subscribers there are to this forum, but you guys just bought some priceless advertising...

I'm seeing references to buying the Adobe software on eBay, and I have to wonder how you get that software registered with Adobe. I'm betting to qualify for the $10.00 CC offering, Adobe must have your AdobeID listed as the owner of CS3 or later. If I buy a copy from eBay, will Adobe let me register it with my AdobeID?

I am in the same boat - my copy of CS3 should be arriving today. I hope (!!!) that I can just register it with Adobe and go from there. I was in chat with one of their reps a few days ago, and I explained what I was doing. His only question was, did I have the serial number yet? As soon as I get it and try it, I will post the results on here.

There is no way I could ever afford the price they charge for complete versions, so I saw ebay as my only chance. If they *don't* accept this, then they will be throwing away their chance at my $10 every month 'for ever'. I am not going to make them rich, but if they want sales and subscribers, then they should accept them.

If they are *not* going to accept ebay purchasers, they should make that clear somewhere. I will have just wasted $75 going from one outdated version (CS2) to another (CS3). I shouldn't think that they are still selling their older versions, so that would mean to qualify for this offer, you would have to buy CS6, for a huge amount of money. My computer cost less than the retail price for that program! If I could afford CS6, then I wouldn't be interested in paying monthly for access to CC!

You purchased a camera just for the 50x zoom. You joined he zoom craze just so you can play zoom. If you are any kind of a photographer at all, you will start understanding there are other specifications regarding lens specifications that you have no clue about.

I was looking for a new camera, and that feature (along with the other stuff which it shares with almost every other camera) was the deciding factor. I wanted a long lens, and - as I stated - the cost of such a lens for a dslr is way beyond my purchasing power. So yes, the zoom was important in my decision.

I have read enough of your moronic comments. Go away.

If you ignore the occasional mean people who just have to say something nasty, the people here really do enjoy helping out. Glad it worked out so well for you - that B&H came through. I will be ordering a new camera in the next few weeks - I know who I am going to order it from.

This is a perfect example of good PR. I think most people on here already know that B&H is a company worth dealing with, but whatever it cost them to put this situation right, it was worth it! How many others on here will have followed this discussion and decided to buy from them instead of somewhere else? Why can't more companies *see* how this works?

I buy a ton of stuff in all categories from Amazon, because they have proved that they value the customer... When something does go wrong, they are so good to deal with, and get things put right.

I don't know about elsewhere but here in NC when UPS rings the doorbell, by the time I get there the truck is half a city block away and the package is on the porch in front of the door, UNLESS the package must be signed for. I can't imagine any of the local drivers waiting for me to open a package to inspect the contents.

I'm not saying this is good, just how it seems to happen.

Yeah, that is my experience too. I have a closed-in porch, and most times they push open the porch door and just shove the package in; they don't even approach the front door. If I am here, that porch door is right outside the window beside me, but I still couldn't get there quick enough to grab the guy.

^^^Sometimes.

Other times buying "compatible" batteries is a crap shoot.

I realise that, and to be fair, I have only had the P&S ones for a couple of weeks. I have used one, but I don't think I have used the other yet. The ones for the SX50 I haven't used at all.

I just feel that Canon is pushing the pricing envelope with their name-brand batteries is all. If they sold them for half the price they currently charge, they would sell a whole bunch more of them, and I can't believe that they still wouldn't be making a decent per-unit profit.

Should just use the Canon DPP that came with the camera, then save as TIF or JPG with minimum compression (best quality) settings.

I did use the DPP in the end, although to be honest, I don't see much difference in the quality between the raw and the camera jpegs... I used the raw to generate the HDR, but the other 2 were plain jpegs. I suppose when I start getting more clever with my shots and what I am doing with them, the raw will come in more useful.

I am just a bit disappointed that this book I have been studying seems to have lead me right up the garden path, in regards to CS2 and Camera Raw.

I think your first pics are great !! I only have small hands and after two weeks I am still hitting the timer set up and other things, they are all so close together on the dial. Practice is my motto :D :D

Yeah, I wouldn't say I have *large* hands, but I guess they aren't small either. I had never really thought about the size factor, but having pretty much all the controls of a full-size slr on a body this small, well, they *have* to put them somewhere I guess. Being right-handed, it would have been easier for me if the controls were more over on the left - but I may change that opinion when I start using the features in earnest...

Thanks for sharing the downloads with us. I am using CANON DSLR cameras, but have a diabolical urge to add the SX50 for a "quick grab subject" camera. I might sneak it past my wife for Christmas.
The resolution on the downloads seems very acceptable for a "bridge" camera. .. "Webby"

I was planning to get my first dslr, but after seeing some of the photos posted on here by sx50 owners, and knowing how much it would cost for a lens that long, I just couldn't resist this one!

I really like the way the pictures came out, especially since most of them were 'grabbed'. Oh, and perhaps I should have said, but none of them were cropped at all. They are resized from 4000x3000 down to 2000x1500, and run through jpegmini for smaller upload size, but that is all. If I wanted to crop in on the full resolution original, I could get even closer! After going from a P&S with a 5x zoom, this is a whole new world!

To render your RAW files, you'd need Adobe camera RAW 7.2 or later. &.2 was only released a year ago. CS2 can't use it.

Instead of converting to the bloated TIFF format, you can download a (free) DNG converter from Adobe that will convert your proprietary RAW file to a universal DNG RAW file which CS2 will handle fine.
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5645

That was another question I was going to ask... Is there any advantage/disadvantage of DNG over CR2? Other than my current program not reading CR2, of course!

OK, here is the 16:9 format. It brings the ram a bit closer and as you said it crops the rocks at the bottom. Personally, I still like my original because of the rocks at the bottom. He was running at high speed and still picking his way through the rocks and I think the rocks at the bottom are really part of the story.

I guess technically, the wider shot gives him more room to 'run in to', but I have to agree with the other posts that the first one somehow works "better" for me.

I have both Canon and OEM batteries - the only one that has failed to date is the genuine Canon one that came with the camera! The OEMs came from firms that appear reputable - with good feedback - and a guarantee.

I have bought after-market batteries for both my cameras (both canons). They are not counterfeit, but sold as 'compatible'. Both sets have higher amp/hour rates than the original canon batteries. I think the manufacturers themselves are causing the counterfeit problem by charging such ridiculous prices. For my P&S, Canon wanted nearly $40 for a battery. I bought 2 higher-capacity Halcyon batteries for it, and paid less than $10 for the pair, *plus* a car charger! I cannot see how the 'real' ones can be *that* much better.

I understand that their equipment, cameras, lenses, and so on are built to a high quality standard, but how much difference in quality can there be in a battery?
