Had the pleasure of a full moon during my visit to the Oregon Coast. Not very good at "moon shots", but a start anyway(liked the colors in the sky).

Just found this thread. Great stuff. These were my first attempts (about a year ago). Wasn't smart enough to go to manual focus, and too much noise, but always learning and trying to improve. Big Island of Hawaii.

With a Sony, the panorama is built in the camera. No stitching or PP except for contrast, etc.

Nice shot.

There's a nice tutorial on panorams at Cambridge in Colour http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/digital-panoramas.htm

Thanks will check it out.

That's beautiful in "Download." I can see why you did a pano.

Thanks, taken from my back patio.

Thanks for your comments. When going to PSE11 it automatically takes it to a .tiff file. I should have clarified my PP prior to going to PSE. Like you, all I did was set my WB and Camera Profile. Any other PP was done after bringing it back to LR4.
Obviously you guys are way beyond me in this stuff. Very cool to see comments from people who really know what they are talking about.

Thanks for the info. I haven't started to review software options yet, so this is very helpful.

There are advanced programs that allow for pitch, yaw and roll adjustments which help to eliminate odd distortions a due to tripods and fixtures not being perfectly level. They require more user knowledge and skills to maximize their effectiveness versus the throw the pictures in and hopefully the program will fixe everything software. Some of these consumer programs are pretty good but if you want to go beyond the canned and simple stitching programs you will need to step into the learning curve of more advanced programs. The one in particular I like is PTA written by Max Lyons. Google Max Lyons and you might find some very interesting and useful information. His forum has slowed down in activity the last couple years but there are some extremely talented and helpful people still contributing. Some of Max's personal work is phenomenal.

Hey thanks, I will definitely look this up.

JT,
I think you have it right already with the overlap.
I often do stitched panos.
I used to overlap less.
Now I overlap 50%.
I see no evidence that this causes softness at all.
As a matter of fact I think it provides much much better stitches.
Think about it. The more overlap, then the more data points the software can find to verify and accurately join the stitch.

I did a 270 degree 11 shot stitch recently with a 50mm lens.
It stitched in an S bend and when I cropped I lost about 20% in height.
The next week my levelling base for the bottom of my ball head arrived.
I went back to the same spot and paid proper attention to my shot taking set up, and made sure I had things level for the full rotation. It stitched perfectly straight with not a noticeable join, all the way around and I lost virtually nothing in height.

Great info thanks. I didn't level my tripod, just eyeballed it and thought that I was close, but I can see that "only close" probably caused some of the distortion.

I just like a little brighter image. What do you think?

Photoshop Levels control and a touch of color balance, a little less magenta.

This looks a lot brighter on my monitor before uploading it.. and my monitor is calibrated.

I agree with you completely. My monitor showed my original much brighter than the posted version as well. I also had to downsize the original to post (which kind of surprised me), but that shouldn't have affected the exposure level?! Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

Rongnongno- I shot this using about a 40-45% overlap. Are you saying it should have been closer to the 15%, or did I misunderstand that comment?

Rongnongno- thanks for your detailed and thoughtful response. All great info. I should have known better with the Manual focus.

I say nice job!

Yes, the distortion is an inevitable effect of the geometry. I usually limit panos to two or three shots which reduces it. You might try some of the alternative merging modes to see if they produce something you like better.

I don't know that portrait would be what you want in this case but you might try it and see. I haven't tried portrait panos but have seen some good ones.

Thanks.
