Has anyone here been to the 911 Memorial in NYC? They say no "professional" cameras are allowed whatever that means in this day and age. I was wondering if any of you had visited the site with a DSLR. I am going tomorrow Saturday the 28th and was wondering how much of a hassle I would get with my E-30 and 12-60 lens

If your web site is Flickr or Smugmug or even Facefook there are plug ins that can be added to the publishing part of the Library Module. If it is some other website consult help and go to the adobe website to see if that particular site has a plug in. Then under file go to the plugin manager and add it or activate it. Then simply drag and drop the photos to that "folder" in the library module. I have been doing this since Lightroom 2 and find it very easy to upload to either Facebook or Smugmug

Of course it depends on your budget. I have the 12-60 and the 50-200 which are really good lenses. However if you are on a tighter budget the 14-54 has many backers and though it hunts like mad the 70-300 takes remarkably sharp photos. If you are into prime lenses the 50mm is still my favorite.

Yet another Olympus user here. You seem to have all the bases covered with your list of lenses. I have heard the quality control of Sigmas can be suspct but others swear by it. You might want to post this question on this web site: http://www.fourthirdsphoto.com/. What ever you decide remember to have fun!

Being doing the slide thing slowly for the past 3 years since I have about 1200 slide my uncle took over a period of 40 years. I have tried various methods but the Epson V600 and Vuescan software seem to work the best. For cleaning, try canned air first. I also have PEC-12 which is an emulsion cleaner I picked up at B&H in NYC or you could get it from them on line. Good luck

[quote=lleach]A problem with trying these programs is that sometimes the initial complexity will overwhelm you. I feel that is the case even with Elements. I actually liked it much less after thirty days than when I bought it. It was quite frustrating.

At this time I have become much happier with Elements after three months of working at learning it and Kelby and Kloskowski's book. It will be several years, if ever, before I'd consider looking further. There is much more for me to learn and then it will take a lot more time to gain experience in using the various features. But now I am having success with most things I try and enjoying learning it.

Oy yes the dreaded learning curve! I am not ashamed to admit that it took me three days to grok layers when I first purchased Elements, about 10 years ago. Various books have helped me immensely also. By the way I think Elements is a great tool and one of the unsung heroes in Adobe software. I recently downloaded the trial of CS5 and could not find any reason to spend the extra $500 even I had said money. The reason I like using trials is to see if there is any fit at all into my workflow. Yes one cannot expect to learn all one needs to know in a month, but one can often see if the software just does not work for them. If what you are using is working for you then why bother spending more on something whose advantages to you would be marginal at best. By the way most of my pictures on; Vanderpix,smug.com, were done in Lightroom, but what ever floats your boat! Above all, whatever gives you enjoyment in reaching your goal go for it

All software is a tool to get what the individual wants out of digital photography. Lightroom, CS5, Bibble, Gimp, Elements or whatever you need to achieve your needs. For me, an amateur who shoots in RAW, Lightroom is my tool of choice aided in rare cases by Elements 8.One of the beauties of the web is the ability to try programs before purchase. I did this recently with several plug in programs and CS5 and found that they did not help me. I was skeptical about Lightroom when I first downloaded it, but once I saw what it could do with it, cataloging, very powerful editing uploading and printing I was hooked. I would say to anyone who takes lots of pictures especially in RAW it is a wonderful tool. But please don' t knock it till you've tried it.

Well I'm one of those people who do just about everything in Lightroom. Since I have always used Elements rather then the full Photoshop, Lightroom has been a better fit for me. I can do about 90% of my work in Lightroom and only go to Elements if I have some graphic to add. I also like that I can upload directly to Facebook and Smugmug. But it is different strokes for different folks. If one has CS5 and has invested the time, Lightroom might be an uneccessary expense

Over the past 3 years I have been slowly digitizing some 1200 slides that my late uncle took over a 40 year period. I started with an HP scanner but when I did not care for the results I switched to using a light box and taking pictures with my macro lens and extender. About a year ago I picked up an Epson V600 and at first I liked the results. It then started putting a light red line on the slides. I then tried tethering into lightroom with good results. Recently I picked up Vuescan software and it seemed to clear up any problems I had with the Epson scanner, plus giving me a RAW master. The important thing is to take your time digitizing your slides and see what works best for you, By the way, Adorama makes there own light box which is very good
