I think Lightroom 3 is probably worth it just for the noise reduction that you get out of it. Remember that Lightroom 4 is already in Beta and will probably be coming out in March, which explains why everyone is putting 3 on sale.
Small photography with shiny surfaces can be challenging. If you have a light tent use it if not put a difuser over the product and shoot through it from above. To give it a little more detail take black foamcore board and stand them on either side of the watch. You'll have to play a little with the foamcore but the black will actually enhance the edges so that the image pops. If you have the time you can buy a small light tent pretty cheap.
There's two things you need to do.
One is deactivate the program either over the phone or through the menu. Go to help and on the dropdown you'll find "Deactivate". You'll need to be hooked upto the internet to do it this way.
Then just uninstall the program normally.
Scubie,
You shouldn't lose respect for someone just because you disagree with him. In fact you should gain respect for him because he's aware of the issue and has formulated an opinion. Abraham Lincoln was the expert in this. He staffed his Cabinet with people who didn't agree with him.
It's the people who have no opinions that concern me because they aren't paying attention.
Pepper I wish you were right. I think that it is all about greed. I've worked for a company where the CEO made 720 Million dollar year and then laid off workers making 40K to make up for a short fall. Then there are guys like Steve Jobs who used what was practically slave labor in China not because they saved him a lot of money but because he could have his contractor force them to work 16 hours a day, seven days a week. I myself would be more than willing to pay an extra $100.00 for my next computer if it was made in the USA>
Take it from the locals. The fastest way to get around in the City is the Subway. It's the only way to beat the traffic.
Although there are certain places that you can't use a tripod like museums, St. Patricks Cathedral and other privately owned locations, there aren't any restrictions on the street other than common sense. The law in NYC is that you need a permit if you are engaged in photography or videography as a professional and producing a commercial product. So you would need a permit to photograph a model for a spread in Vogue but you don't need one to photograph a bride on 5th Avenue even if you are a pro wedding photographer because the end result is not a commercial product. NY's Finest are probably the friendliest cops in the world and I doubt you'll run into any problems. I know I never have.
Greenwich Village - I'd shoot Washington Square Arch.

The Financial District you have to shoot the Bull Sculpture at the south end of Broadway.
Lower East side you can shoot Delancy Street especially on a Sunday
Midtown - Gotta be the Empire State Building or Grand Central Station.
Upper West Side try the Museum of Natural History
Upper East Side - Central Park/Central Park Zoo
Hells Kitchen - The Intrepid Air/Space Museum
Meat Packing District - Highline Park (Park built on Elevated Railroad Tracks)
World Trade Center Memorial a must
Times Square - Especially at night
Rockefeller Center Ice Rink
The Guggenheim - Round Building that's really unique.
Don't forget Hotels - Waldorf - Magnificant Lobby, The Plaza Incredable.
The Metropolitan Museum and Grounds You'll be there all day
There ya go. That should keep you busy for a while.
China is so successful because America made them that way. Companies like APPLE need to bring jobs back to this Country and need to do it now. The cost difference between manufacturing an APPLE computer as opposed to China is a wopping $17.00.
BTW it ain't just this Administration it's everyone of them for the past twenty years.
The slave unit you showed will trigger the flash with the pop up flash as long as you have line of site. It will not however communicate with the camera so you'll have to shoot in manual.
Love this shot. I'd definitely hang it on my wall.
Great shots. I love saturated colors. Maybe it's my monitor but the whites look perfect to me.
Imaginist,
I think you win!.
There's something to be said about being in the right place at the right time but, I've got to give you credit; You nailed it!!!.
Great work
Really cool stuff and I'll give you extra points for being brave enough to live in Alaska.
