"extremely excited", "love it", looks like it doesn't take much to get you guys going! Good luck and enjoy!

Alternative, use the live view feature, just like all the ones using their cell phones and point and shoots.

Ronjay, amazingly sharp and well illuminated close up. I rarely ever get such good directional lighting on birds or even ground animals. It'd be interesting to hear what equipment and settings you used.

Hey frog, I have both of those kit lenses, which I mount on my two Rebel T2i's and attach to a dual harness (BLACHRAPID.com)that I have found to be convenient and comfortable. I have taken photos of a variety of subjects, moving and static - close and far, with that setup, printed them on 11x17 formats, and gotten complements at exhibitions. Yes, I have "L" lenses, but these do the job when I want a wide range of coverage out in the field, and need to travel quick and light.

Thanks rolf, very interesting story, mum without spoken words. Nothing like the good 'ole days; they don't make 'em like that anymore. Good photography, well choreographed.

I agree with colo43 that #3 is best by a long shot. I normally don't shoot portraits with the subject looking directly at the camera - too stark - and especially if the eyes are not clearly defined as in #2, where the forehead is brighter than the eyes.

So tell us, what program did you use, what functions you used and to what extent so's we can all benefit.

Again, I agree with most of the critical comments made herein, but really, who cares about those obviously biased and ill advised statements by the father and Chechen president, for what they're worth. Our real and most earnest problem is to ferret out the murderous and sadistic nuts, native and foreign born, running around uninhibited in this free society. Will it come to a condition where police and/or national guard surveillance will be necessary at every gathering? Imagine how this could impact one of our first amendment rights.

I agree with all of you that what these misguided miscreants did is an abominable act against the human race. Any self-serving attempt to explain it by the obviously biased father and the Chechen president are acts of insensitivity and prejudice.

They all look great to me - wonderful pose - but I have a coupla questions: Where was it taken that you were able to capture the moment, what equipment and settings did you use?

Hey, tankc, if that's "just playing around" I wonder what you'd turn out when you're serious!

Tankc, after that explanation, all I can say is that you and that lens working together have performed exceptionally. It's hard to believe that a lens with that broad a focal length can garner such resolution when zoomed in so close. I marvel at the detail in the third picture of the eyes - hand held, no less, with a lens that probably does not have built in image stabilization. Really great stuff!

Very good resolution and color fidelity. Lots to say about the close up capability of the lens. Did you manually focus and tripod mount?

Yep, Stroboframe does it well for off camera bracket and at reasonable cost, starting at $44 or so.

gregoryd 45, exceptionally good captures of this bird in several perfectly caught poses. The photography is exacting in exposure and focus, showing attention to composition and surrounding media that is incomparable. Great work!
