Have you guys seen the new celestron tube only for photos. No eyepiece in tube and they have a DSLR hanging off the front.

Before hanging a heavy FX Camera consider that all that weight is all on the glass corrector plate. Then there's all the light a camera that size blocks.

It€™s time to search for a tracking mount. Any recommendations for a motorized device that make it easy for alignment?

Beautiful shot.

The clouds were running a flanking move as I shot off 72 quick subs of the Moon this evening.

The result below is the result of aligning and stacking three of those 72 subs in RegiStax.

Sony RX10 IV, 600mm, f/4, 1/320sec @ ISO100, handheld.

Enjoy!

PITA weather here! Even when it looked plausible during the day, it would go to pot when the Sun set.
But for the most part, the weather's been abominable. Classic Spring weather for here. Hunker down and sit it out.

But all bad things come to an end! And while the transparency was crappy looking at twilight, it managed to get even worse.
But if I can see stars, I'm going to try. Unless it's too late. After all, I do need my beauty sleep. (Not that it has ever done any good...)
So last night was my first viable chance in 15 daze. And 3.30" of rain in March alone.
Quack!

So, my alignment took me near the Southern Meridian after the 2+4 stars alignment. Since Orion is closing for this year's viewing, and I was in the neighborhood anyway, I chose the Flame Nebula for a first target. Kind of warm up by the Flame... ha, ha, haaa.... Images 1-2.

After a while sucking the light out of the Flame and Alnitak, I decided to look elsewhere. The Orion area was approaching the neighbors tree in the Western sky.
I could glimpse The Great Cluster in Hercules would be rising later, so I decided to do a little Star Shooting with Arcturus near where Hercules would rise. Images 3-4-5. I was getting some interesting natural spires appearing, so watched those develop through the dampening atmosphere. It was getting dewey...

I took aim at Hurcules before it was in my view, then monitored via my guide scope camera and Infinity running in "Finder Mode" @ 10s exposures. (A non-stacking, find and focus more before going into video stacking mode). So while waiting, I watched some mind numbing YouTube video's of train snow plows, Heavy hauling, and equipment disasters. Yeah, you could say I was bored....
But finally Hercules appeared to my viewing, and I began collecting images.
I started with the previous settings of 45s exposures. But the heart was blowing out, so I tried reducing the exposure to 20s, which helped a bit. But someting wong... After several freeze ups of Vnc (my remote control program), and restarts, things were getting frustrating. When I went outside, everything was wet with dew. Heavy dew. And the sky was looking like fog.
It was 1 AM, things were soaked and acting up, so I decided to quit.
But after half a month of crap skies, it was fun to play among the stars again. As Dad use to say, "Better days are acommin."
At least everything was working fine... still.

I think improving the resolution of Hercules will be a fun challenge in the coming months when it rises earlier and earlier. A lot like fiddling with The Great Orion Nebula was.
It's nice to know the Universe is still out there beyond the clouds...

Yeah, the very last shower we had it rained 1/2" in 8min. Almost flooded my garage.
Very nice work on your shots Sonny.

If you are thinking long term of faster maybe save your money and go cooled ccd/cmos. I use a RASA, similar to faster/hyper. I know it’s a lot more $, but at least you won’t be sorry later.

I wholeheartedly agree with Brian. For Faststar I only use my CCD camera. The weight of a full size FX Camera hanging on the front corrector plate would make me very nervous. There are lots of cameras designed for that purpose in all price ranges.

Very interesting shot. I like blue but it is a little bit much. I was wondering can you turn down the intensity of blue on the frames you took in the Post Processing???

Hi Craig! Good to see you!

As long as you realize you will need bigger Hard Drives, and faster processing, I'd say go for the Gusto!
Personally, I came to the conclusion I'd be better off with cameras meant to do Astrophotography.
Instead of adapticating my DSLR to my telescope (which I did anyway), I knew I'd beat my DSLR to death if it was my primary Astro Cam.

Mirror less at least. Less to break down.
For me, the Sony A7's have a lot of drool factor.

I too finally got a dedicated Astrophotography Camera. But my original thought process was to have a dual purpose camera until I was active enough in Astro work to justify the cost.

I’m looking at buying a camera for my telescope. DSLR or Mirrorless?
Looking at Sony a7lll (24 pixels) or Sony a7rlll (48 pixels).
Would the higher pixels give me much better detail or do I need that much?

24MP will give you good pictures I used to use a Nikon D5100 at that pixel platform.
But now I have upgraded to the D800E 36MP and get much better shots so the 48MP
Sony you are looking at should be even better than my Nikon. It's up to you about the
dollar value you're willing to spend. Nikon also makes the new 48MP D850 now too.

I got a shot at Uranus recently. I took the picture with my ST-80 guide scope and the QHY color guide camera to get a wider field of view than I could with the C-11. I took the shot without guiding and found the 30 second exposures did not smear TOO much! I only stacked 12 exposures and subtracted a dark frame averaged over 4 exposures. Photo-shopped a little and ended up with what you see here. I would have liked to stack a bunch more, but clouds were starting to move in from the West so I went with what I got.

We have mountain lions in the hills around us. The way they hunt in dark, I wouldn't have time to pull out Mr Colt.

Attacks don't happen often. But they do happen. And I can recall news accounts of them.

Yeah we have Mountain Lion, Bobcat and Coyote up on the Mountain that we have to be aware of. That's why we try to have 2 or more up there. The Coyotes do come into my flatland neighbor hood. They get cats and dogs on occasion.

Yes Tony, we all would like to see the 'original'. And more precise data.
