PITA weather here! Even when it looked plausible during the day, it would go to pot when the Sun set.
But for the most part, the weather's been abominable. Classic Spring weather for here. Hunker down and sit it out.
But all bad things come to an end! And while the transparency was crappy looking at twilight, it managed to get even worse.
But if I can see stars, I'm going to try. Unless it's too late. After all, I do need my beauty sleep. (Not that it has ever done any good...)
So last night was my first viable chance in 15 daze. And 3.30" of rain in March alone.
Quack!

So, my alignment took me near the Southern Meridian after the 2+4 stars alignment. Since Orion is closing for this year's viewing, and I was in the neighborhood anyway, I chose the Flame Nebula for a first target. Kind of warm up by the Flame... ha, ha, haaa....
Images 1-2.
After a while sucking the light out of the Flame and Alnitak, I decided to look elsewhere. The Orion area was approaching the neighbors tree in the Western sky.
I could glimpse The Great Cluster in Hercules would be rising later, so I decided to do a little Star Shooting with Arcturus near where Hercules would rise. Images 3-4-5. I was getting some interesting natural spires appearing, so watched those develop through the dampening atmosphere. It was getting dewey...
I took aim at Hurcules before it was in my view, then monitored via my guide scope camera and Infinity running in "Finder Mode" @ 10s exposures. (A non-stacking, find and focus more before going into video stacking mode). So while waiting, I watched some mind numbing YouTube video's of train snow plows, Heavy hauling, and equipment disasters. Yeah, you could say I was bored....
But finally Hercules appeared to my viewing, and I began collecting images.
I started with the previous settings of 45s exposures. But the heart was blowing out, so I tried reducing the exposure to 20s, which helped a bit. But someting wong... After several freeze ups of Vnc (my remote control program), and restarts, things were getting frustrating. When I went outside, everything was wet with dew. Heavy dew. And the sky was looking like fog.
It was 1 AM, things were soaked and acting up, so I decided to quit.
But after half a month of crap skies, it was fun to play among the stars again. As Dad use to say, "Better days are acommin."
At least everything was working fine... still.
I think improving the resolution of Hercules will be a fun challenge in the coming months when it rises earlier and earlier. A lot like fiddling with The Great Orion Nebula was.
It's nice to know the Universe is still out there beyond the clouds...
