I have two photo frames. I just get my picture files reduced to under 1 MB, put them on an old 1 or 2 MB SD card, and the frame does the rest. No slideshow software necessary. I can adjust the timing of the slides on the frame.

We went ti Rio Tambopata in Peru. It doesn't rain 24-7. Keep the good camera in a ziplock, and take it out when conditions are good. Also look at a Canon D10 or Nikon AW100. I own the Canon (12 MP, 3x zoom) and it has been a loyal companion in jungles and snorkeling (waterproof to 30 feet). You can use it in any humidity as long as you can keep water droplets from obscuring the view out of the lens. It has fantastic battery life which is nice to have in primitive environments. Also, smaller file size means more pictures on your SD card. The Nikon is new, but has 16 MP and 5x zoom, and GPS capabilities. Should be lots of fun, I saw it in Costco.

We went last Summer, and my wife shoots with a FZ-100. You will have a tendency to overexpose your first shots until you get used to all of the great light. Set your white balance to cloudy. It gives shots a slightly golden tone, reminiscent of the magic light before sunset. Experiment with scene modes like beach, snow, or sports. Sports mode works well with wildlife, because they are usually moving and you may have to be quick to catch some of the best action shots. In full manual, play around with aperture and shutter speeds.

Memory is going to a crucial element of your experience. I took an inexpensive netbook (Samsung N-120) with a portable USB powered external hard drive. The netbook had long battery life, and the external hard drive did not require a separate power adapter.

We both used 16 GB SDHC cards. You need to save pictures to the external hard drive, and then format the memory card. I did this religiously, and had no problems. If you have new memory cards, make sure that they work BEFORE you go.

Have a great trip!
