Forgot to add that I know the 7xxx series cameras are very good, just considerably over my budget.

Hey, UUHers, I'm confused. I have finally settled on the nikon d5500 the 18-55mm kite lens and the nikon 70-300 AF-P lens, with a auto-focus motor built into the lens. Excellent price at Cameta Camera (under $700). DPReview says the 3xxx and 5xxx series do not have auto-focus built into the camera, built provide auto-focus with AF-S and AF-i lenses. Does this mean that the above lenses as well as other kit lenses sold with cameras have auto-focus motors? Otherwise, the d5500, d5300, and d5600 all receive rave reviews, and fit my budget.
I do have a couple of 35 yr. old Nikon film cameras I haven't used in years with several lenses. Local camera shop said they would work with the new cameras, but, of course, would have to be manually focused (series E lenses). I probably will never use the old lenses, but was just wondering about that. Sorry I got kind of long winded, but was trying to be sure I was covering all bases. Info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Remember the original movie "Crocodile Dundee" where the kangaroos were "shooting" back at the hunters?

Thanks for the discussion and varied views. I do listen to it all. However, the instructor did insist on Photoshop CC or Photoshopcs6 if you already have it. Preference given to CC version as that is what he will instruct on. The instructor uses CC extensively in his work as a professional photographer with a wide range of commercial customers for over 40 years. So, if what I wanted was a photoshop course, this is what was available. I have it on subscription; so if I decide I don't want to use it anymore after a year, I'll blow it off, figuring whatever I learn can be used in other Photoshop programs if I desire. I am committed to it at this point, so that probably makes it my logical course of action. BTW; what is CMYK? Thanks for the feedback; it has been helpful.

Fellow UHH'ers.;
Started a new informal learning class on photography. I need to submit photos related to the class to be used in training presentation.
Using Nikon's Vnx2 software and just learning Photoshop CC (long ways to go). Problem: I need to reduce the MB size of the photos from the 3MB recorded on SD card and downloaded to processing software to 1 MB in order to send as an attachment to an e-mail to the class. UHH'ers have been great with info, so, hoping to get some good information on how to do this.
Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. 7000 series prices stretch my budget a bit too much. Would anyone suggest a 5000 series other than the 5500 or 5600, such as the 5300? Thanks for the suggestions on lenses as well. I may have to go with the two kit lenses I mentioned until I can afford more.

Fellow UHH's:
I am looking at nikon 5000 series cameras. I believe the 5600 and 5500 are very similar with the major exception being that the 5600 has a touch screen. Is this important enough to choose the 5600 over any of the other 5000 series Nikons? I thought I would start out with one of these cameras with the 2 kit lenses (18-55 Nikkor and 70-300 Nikkor as-p ED lense; all refurbished). I am retired and have a limited budget, but want to move up from a bridge camera. Any suggestions or thoughts on the above or any of the other series 5000 cameras? My bridge camera has an articulating screen so I am wanting to keep that feature. Currently Cameta Camera has the above setup at $699 refurbished. I have read a lot of great info on this site, so I am looking forward to some good info.

Thanks,
Whatdat

Totally agree with SteveLew. Have been to Big Bend NP 9 times with horses and 3 times by car over last 46 years. Absolutely stunning. If staying in the Chisos Basin Lodges make reservations at least 6 months ahead
BTW an earlier comment on distance to Alpine being 50-60 miles from center of park; more like 90 miles. The roads in that area are not fast roads, so may not be a convenient option if visiting the park itself for more than one day, which is not nearly enough. Going back there again in April, 2018 with reservations made about 2 months ago. They were almost booked up then.
Enjoy the park.
