" I do hope to get good enough to charge. That is the goal. Thanks. Marty"

Marty we both work the same market demographics... I'm based out of Northern VA and you're a little south in NC.
Thus all you have to do is meet and/or exceed the level of expertise that I bring to the table...

To this end I'm posting a sample of a paid assignment for a very young and extremely talented 12 year old feminine musician... This tween rocked her studio session (which btw I had my studio's top hair stylist aboard (she is formerly with VOGUE NYC)... And our studio makeup artist which I trained). If you are serious you need to nurture a relationship with Hair; Makeup and Wardrobe Stylist in your market if you wish to work on the commercial side of the image equation Marty.

Best advice? Work as an assistant for other commercial shooters in your marketplace first...
That was my path... Focus on your single purpose i.e. "your Passion; your Love and your Mission"
A Japanese proverb

Hope this makes sense Marty.

Stellar illumination... Side lighting brings out the bias relief and adds depth and dimension to this rendering...
Epic pose dynamic, and a hallmark of an experienced talent... Loving the sparkling specular highlights on her fabulously toned midriff... Yes an ideal physique model for athletic-wear fashion... Nike, Athleta and Lululemon to name a few.

Top athletic-wear fashion agency? Sportswear Brands pay handsomely for top talent to showcase their product line...

Jim so many of your sand; sun and surf subjects would be absolutely ideal for a swimwear fashion campaign.
Again thank you for sharing your superb visual statement in this lovely post...
Kudos to both artists here... the physique model and a master of reportage photography i.e. that which captures a compelling moment in a lifestyle narrative...

You've become a legend in this forum... word!

"Comments clearly show I did not do well with this image. Thanks for the comments which have remained related to photography concepts. Back to the drawing board.

Please no worries 2nefoto... I certainly (and decisively) recognized the nature of the narrative you are sharing here... Why so? Because I have worked in the commercial "fine art" genre in my market as a Lighting Assistant (pays well ) as such have had to address this very scenario on more than one occasion. See an example of my Studio Lighting below for a session with a photographer who desired to create precisely what you have endeavor to accomplish here.

Note: The sole reason for posting in "Your Thread" is to provide positive reinforcement and potential ideas if you wish to take this concept to the next level. As such I trust you're not offended, however if so then I apologize in as providing support and guidance is my only intent.

Maybe it would be best to ignore trite comments by those who merely seek attention from their peers here on UHH.
If you look carefully at their posted UHH work you will quickly realize that they lack credible credentials to be taken seriously. Please continue to do your best, and learn from those who actually care enough to take time to review and provide constructive reflections on what you hoped to achieve here.

Wishing you much joy and success on your Photographic Journey 2nefoto...

The Castle Doctrine has be codified and expanded by many state legislatures.
Please consider taking the time to study how it is applied in your State in as this Common Law Doctrine is extremely complex... And keep in mind it is primarily germane to Criminal scenarios not so much to the Civil side of the equation. Hope this helps, or is at least food for thought.

Thank you for sharing Architect

Loving the second image Jim...
Those alluring cascading tresses are absolutely stellar... adding much alluring femininity to this timeless rendering...
Compelling low angle illumination creates a lovely aura of three dimensional relief...
Wonderful wardrobe styling with a classic paisley print shift dress adds to the dreamlike feminine ambiance within.

So serine... so beautifully done...
Thank you so much for sharing Jim

Robert superb renderings all.... lovely blend of earth tone color harmonies latent within each and every image...
However I'm loving the 3/4 length Editorial Fashion narrative in your first image of Sarah.
Stellar use of chiaroscuro illumination in this image to impart a three-dimensional effect on her epic form-fitting sheath dress. Rich golden hue skin tones combine with beige wardrobe styling to create a warm aura of femininity

Albeit it is Sarah's honey blond cascading tresses that take this Fashion Editorial entirely to the next level.
So tastefully done with a hint of alluring playfulness in Sarah's charismatic smile.
The editorial tone is further enhanced by Sarah's skillful use of hands with all the grace and charm of a ballerina.

While Sarah wouldn't likely make it into New York Fashion Week she is the archetype Victoria Secret Angel...
A highly skilled thespian of considerable merit... It is obvious from the wonderful synergy in this set that you both were in perfect sync in purpose and narrative intent. Kudos to both of you (and your wardrobe stylist ).

It takes considerable talent to morph from fabulous Fashion Editorial to superb Boudoir Glamour within the same set... Thank you so much for sharing your epic artistry Robert, truly a joy to behold.

Rob we both are on the same page here.
I've been shooting League Soccer commercially for well over a decade; (Girls U18)
Like you, my Lens choice is the AF-S 200-400mm f/4G IF ED VR Nikkor (Love it!)
btw League Soccer has been a major sources of my revenue stream.

Posting one of your epic captures below in hopes it will be of merit in attracting potential buyers .
Thinking you'll truly benefit from providing quality imagery of your Nikon D4s
And also more example imagery (in this thread) that you've captured with it.

The only slight difference between both our kits is I mate my AF-S 200-400mm f/4 with a Nikon D3x which has worked extremely well for my client base. Albeit we both pretty much use the exact same settings on the Pitch to capture the Soccer Action. My compliments on your stellar Soccer Portfolio imagery on flickr... It is a joy to review.

And best wishes on your marketing efforts... I'm certain once your provide the D4s' current shutter count and quality support imagery this Nikon Pro Body it will find a new home with another like minded UHH member.
Lots of Sports shooters here Rob.

Again many thanks for sharing your epic Soccer imagery on flickr! Greatly appreciate!
Cheers! Thomas

Wags you've received some excellent suggestions thus far...
Especially appropriate and germane from ELNikkor and Hip Coyote.

I work as a lighting assistant for high end commercial photographers in my market (Washington, DC) and can assure you that step ladders are SOP for Large Group Imagery... Often I'm holding these ladders steady for my client and also have their backup camera in hand ready to swap out with their primary as needed.

For League and Team Soccer there are several rules:
Always have the Soccer Ball in the image (even with Team Photos)
Always have player(s) faces in sharp focus in the image (no exceptions here)

Much of my revenue stream comers from League Soccer (of which I've an Avid Fan!).
If you truly love (and/or have played) the Sport your shooting you will typically best your competition.
Final Note: (As others have mention) If you are the least bit uncertain about your abilities then it may be in everyone's best interest for you to gracefully decline the offer. Continue shooting Soccer and please wait until you've gain considerable experience with team portraiture. Why? Sports Team Images are akin to Wedding Events, both of which occur in Real Time! You absolutely have to know for certain how to Nail It (and just how many extra images to capture to assure your deliverables)

Hope this helps Wags or is at least food for thought.
Wishing you much joy and success on your commercial photography journey.

Absolutely stellar rendering of this fragile and spectacular butterfly Mike...
Your plane of focus was "spot on"! What perfect timing...

The erratic nature of butterflies make them far more difficult than one would first believe.
My fav mode is to find all the local Butterfly Bushes (Buddleja davidii) along my hiking paths...
And simply wait until the sun is at low angle to fully illuminate (at a normal i.e. 90 angle) those epic colorful wings...

In my experience Tiger Swallowtail's totally love Butterfly bush foliage! Starbucks for Butterflies...
I've spent many hours mesmerizer by Mother Nature's dazzling gems trying to get that "perfect" wing alignment to showcase those vibrant colors in all their splendor...

However your rendering here with perfect wing positioning on a lovely bed of quartzite sand grains is a tour de force in nature photography!

Thank you so much for sharing Mike

stant52 please give your Grand Daughter my sincere congratulations on her graduating from Nursing School.
That is an absolutely awesome achievement! And she has chosen a most noble calling indeed...

It's oft said... "What do you call someone who saves a life? You call them a Hero!"
However "What do you call someone who saves hundreds of lives? You call them a Registered Nurse"

Has your Grand Daughter passed her NCLEX-RN Exam? I helped tutor one of my colleague through that ordeal... It is by far one of the most challenging certification exams I've ever encountered.

Below is a image of my colleague who is now a Registered Nurse in her local Hospital's ICU (Intensive Care Unit) where critical decisions are often made endlessly throughout a 12 tour of duty...

btw stant52 that image was made with a Nikon D7200 in Aperture Priority Mode, Auto White Balance, with On-Camera Flash in iTTL mode (Flash compensation and Exposure Compensation were dialed in to emphasize my friend). Note: I've used that configuration for location events i.e. Weddings, Graduations, Save the Date etc. effectively many many times. Oh, I used a Sigma AF 50-150mm f/2.8 DC OS APO HSM Lens for this image.

Hope this helps stant52 on your photographic journey moving forward.
That said I'm going to highly recommend that your gift your Grand Daughter with a Stethoscope to commemorate her epic accomplishment. Why a Stethoscope? It is by far and away the most important professional tool she will be using throughout her career. She will likely carry it everywhere she goes in her professional capacity... Word!

I give my colleague a Littmann Classic III Stethoscope when she graduated her pre-nursing academic training in as she would need it to do her "clinicals" And please no worries if she already has a Stethoscope, a Registered Nurse can't have too many Stethoscopes (beside I give her one in Mauve)

Here's a link to a Littmann Classic III Stethoscope (please choose Personalized Engraving with her name on it)
https://www.littmann.com/3M/en_US/littmann-stethoscopes/advantages/promotions/graduation/
You may have to copy and paste this link in your browser stant52

Another option is the Littmann Cardiology IV Diagnostic Stethoscope however this is for use by those working in challenging environments such as the ED, ICU, Cardiac ICU, step-down units which aren't typically entry level except for those who have achieved excellence in their "clinicals" and have been hired to work in a critical care scenario.

Thanks for your kind words tshift... Yes "She is a beautiful lady!!" thus the reason she was selected to showcase Samantha's artistry... The metric used is typically perfect facial symmetry... With Oval faces considered the highest rated with heart shaped faces a very close second... also superb skin texture... virtually invisible pore structure with the Gold Standard being a Porcelain Doll! For beauty... look no further than to all the high end advertisements for jewelry etc.

As for Washington DC? Tom it actually is on par with your home town.
Overland Park, KS (Violent Crime Rate is 2.39 (per 1,000 residents))
While Washington DC (Violent Crime Rate is 163.5 (per 100,000 residents))
Source: https://realestate.usnews.com/places/district-of-columbia/washington/crime
It's ranked as #39 in Best Places to Live and #82 in Best Places to Retire

Please do the Math Tom and I tactfully suggest you be very careful about making uncorroborated statements.

That said I have a CCW permit from Commonwealth of Virginia, Circuit Court of Fairfax
I also live only 20 minutes from the National Headquarters of the NRA of which I am a member and shoot at NRA's superb indoor range regularly with my Glock 19 gen 4 as my health allows.

My team is my family... Thus I do everything possible to keep them out of harms way, to this end I now would rarely accept an assignment in DC (even if my my health conditions improve to the point that location work is again an option.)

Our team is very tight knit collaborative. I've follow their journey long after they have found other more amenable situations.

Below is an example of marketing "promo" material for one of our first Hair Stylist (Jewel) from back in 2008... also the model in this shoot was our studio makeup artist for many years (she's now a manager of a Fashion Boutique ... Oh, I did her bridal makeup for her wedding
Here's a link to Jewel's current Web Site https://jewelhd.com/

Again many thanks Tom for taking the time to review and reflect...
Wishing much wonderful success with your Commercial Sports Photography (which btw I truly enjoy here on UHH)

An endearing rendering with superb counterpoint in contrasting tonal range used creatively to create a dream within a dream... With that said, it is the absolutely telling compositional elements that takes this rendering entirely to the next level.

"This was the first time I had ever seen morels in the wild. When I lived in the western edge of the Great Valley (Hagerstown MD) the locals use to take us to find morels on the slopes of the mountains in late spring... They return year after year... Thank you so much for sharing, brings back so many wonderful memories of Days of Future Past...
