Lots of good advice here. My criteria was could I afford it and did I have things that would keep me busy. At 61, the answer to both was yes. Photography and working with Habitat for Humanity was the answer to the latter; my AF retirement, savings, and other retirements answered the former. Go for it and enjoy yourself.

Without upsetting anyone, I think we should confine this forum to photography as opposed to other misc. subjects.

I'm not familiar with SuperDuper but I would get another hard drive as a second backup and put it in a safe deposit box. I'm opposed to using a third party online backup. Seen too many of them go out of business and leave people losing all their images.

That's a little harsh. I think the snow gives it a unique effect. I kind of like it.

Gregger--just remember that the more you compress an image, the more it degrades the image quality. And storage space these days is pretty cheap so the larger you make the captured image the less image quality loss there will be. Don't know what camera you're using but some have the capability to capture an image in two files-one raw (theorectically uncompressed) and one JPEG or TIFF or whatever.

And, yes, what a hell of a ball game!

I don't know what's in your budget but I have found that today's printers yield pretty good results without breaking the bank too badly. I think the key is to have the right assortment of inks and quality paper. Don't expect good prints from lousy paper. I have two printers: an HP7525 and an HP2880. I bought the 7525 as just an office printer but it ended up putting out pretty good quality photographic prints on good paper.

Greasing the pole works but you have to keep re-greasing it. We have a pole that is squirrel proof (so far). It's attached to the railing and is a big U shape that reaches out from the railing. Now that winter is here, the squirrels may be more desperate and try harder. Also, a 12 gauge works. And the pictures are nice.
