What "gun-control" advocates, especially the ones actually in politics really want is the ability to give whatever orders to us "proles" (or to directly do whatever to us) they damned well please without our having any way to say "HELL, NO!" and make it stick. In short, they want exactly the same thing every other thug, goon, gangster, tyrant, etc. has ever wanted-- a pool of unarmed victims to have their fun with. It's as simple as that. Really.

Never mind that historical research since McCarthy's era, including examination of the Soviet archives after the fall of the USSR show that, if anything, he was understating how complete the infiltration of the US government by Stalin's agents was.

I would commend to your attention the book _American Betrayal_ (it has a subtitle which I don't recall well enough to quote) by Diana West.

For artistic photography (at whatever level) I agree with you completely. But what about documentary photography, photojournalism, and especially photographs used for forensic/evidentiary purposes. Those had better not be faked in any way.
