The Canon 50 mm 1.8 lens does not have a metal backing plate. The 50mm 1.4 lens does which makes it far more durable.
If money is an issue you would better served in saving your lens bucks until you can either afford or justify the 50mm 1.4 lens the features are more than well worth the cost. The 50 mm 1.8 is available from most of the usual places Amazon, B&H, Adorama for approx $99, the 50mm 1.4 is priced at approx $379. I have and have used both the 1.8 lens and the 1.4 lens, the 1.4 lens is a superb crisp lens for the money. You can also take a look at the KEH website. They are a used camera equipment reseller. I have used them to sell cameras and also purchased camera bodies and lenses from them. You buy from them based on the condition of the equipment you can save money on what somebody else does not want any longer.
The best advice is once you get a body you can and like to use spend your money on lenses. The bodies for the most part are manufactured as fast as computer upgrades so yesterdays newest model is worth less when the new body upgrade appears. The lenses do not depreciate as fast as the bodies and retail their value.

All of the Adobe Products have full working trial or demo copies you can download and use in most cases for thirty days. You can try the full array of Adobe Products and see which one works the best for you. If you have enough images that you want to organize them by events you might try Lightroom which is also available as a trial download. You can import your images into Lightroom and make a great many changes or edits to your photos. In the event you decide that you have images that you want to edit further you have the option of using Photoshop Elements or PS 5 to further edit your images easily inside of the Lightroom program.

It is easy to include a watermark in your photos. It will give you some protection against people who will download your images and then either prints them or attempt to take them to a shop to have them printed. Unless you want to give your work away include it on any photos you put in a public place especially social networking sites. A water mark is not an absolute quarantee that it will not be published but most commercial printing shops will not print the image without a release from you stating that person has the right to use or print the image
