I think that is good advice JD. I would like to get a full frame body that has high resolution, but you and others have convinced me that investing in high quality lenses is critical. I will add a new post sometime soon to seek advice on lenses. I don't want to break the bank, and am hoping that in the $1000 range I can get a quality landscape lens.

I have been reading Ken Rockwell's site and find it very informative. However, I read his review of the Nikon 28-300 mm lens and he says it about the only lens he needs when shooting as it is very high quality. I was really thinking that it would be the way to go but then I then read some other reviews that were much less enthusiastic. It can be confusing.

I am new to the forum but there seem to be many well experienced photographers here and I am seeking advice as I look to upgrade.

I am an avid amateur and did a lot of outdoor photography back in the 70's and 80's with Canon equipment. After using point and shoot digital cameras for the past 8 years, I finally got my first DSLR last year, a Canon T4i with the EF-S 18-135 lens. I mainly take landscape photos, especially with fly fishing as the theme. This fall I was fortunate enough to have my photos on the covers of two fly fishing magazines which has really given me the bug to get a higher quality body and lens.

One of the magazines, which I plan to submit to again, is 11" by 14" in size, so I need good quality images. The T4i does a good job, but from images I have seen with higher resolution and higher end cameras and lenses, they can do much better.

For the first time in my life, I am debating between staying with Canon or switching to Nikon. I would like to get a full frame camera and am looking at the Canon 6D and 5D Mark III and the Nikon D750 and D810. The Nikon bodies, especially the 810, have higher resolutions which appeals to me, and the articulated screen on the 750 would be nice, as I love that on my T4i.

To keep this post from getting any longer, I'll save my lens questions for later. I'm not trying to answer the age old question of whether Nikon or Canon is better, but among these four cameras, which you think would be better to achieve sharp high resolution images. If I thought Canon was ever going to catch up to Nikon in resolution, I would probably wait, but no one seems to know when that might happen.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Phil

I have never used Ps before but worked a little with Ps Essentials. As a college professor we can buy the entire Adobe suite for $20/year which is a great deal. Next semester I am taking a Ps class at the local community college through the graphic arts department which will hopefully get me started. Tuition is very reasonable at CC's so you might consider that. Much less expensive than hiring someone directly to teach you.
