Started SCUBA in 67-68, compliments of USN when they sent me to Andros Island, Bahamas (largest of Bahamas 700 Islands and no one knows where it is). Bought my first Minolta Highmatic 7 in Nassau to record where I was. SCUBA and photography kind of went by the wayside till 1971 when I took a class in Basic Photography at the Univ of Alaska in Fairbanks from an awesome professor. Bought my own darkroom and developed film in the mens bathroom (guys never used private bathtub area, so I converted it to darkroom. When I left college for my sabittical (Univ. said something about a 0.75 GPA and perhaps I should eval my career path) I spent a year backpacking around Europe and Africa. Had a little Kodak camera to record travel. Then another break as life came along. returned to college and graduated in 78. Married, children etc -- life. In 92 returned to college to work on Masters degree and teaching certificate. Began teaching at 50 with my MEd. 2001 I had students who wanted to be Marine Biologists (I tought Biology) so I suggested they get SCUBA certified. They agreed and I joined them. We all got certified. Instructor was Womens Hall of Fame diver (now one of my best friends)She helped me ge advanced certifications (Divemaster now) and got me back into Photography. We started with Nikon D200's then I went to a D300, and now we are both working with D7000's in Aquatica housings. I am still 'heavy' on the learning curve. Have taken numerous online courses and have a library of photography books -- still learning. Had 3 photos of the SS Oregon (sitting down at 130' off New York) published in a book published a year ago, called 'Shipwrecks of the Cunard line' which is my minimal claim to fame. Goal is travel and U/W photography, but am still in the learning mode and learning from everyone on UHH each day. Someday perhaps the dream may be realized, but when I look at the photos on UHH, I realize I still have a lot more to learn.

I think I found the problem After seeing everything light up on the Pocket wizards indicating they were communicating, and the SB 910's LCD screen light up, but no flash, I read several articles online and finally found one that said to get out of the ttl mode as it will not work in ttl. I switched out of that mode and 'flash' now I am trying to learn how to power it down so I don't get to much flash. Still very heavy on the learning curve. Thanks for all advice.

I am trying to increase my photography skills (the few I have) and decided to purchase a couple of pocket wizards and a SB 910 for my Nikon D7000. I can get the 910 to fire on the camera and the pocket wizards blink to indicate they are communicating, but the 910 won't fire when off camera attached to the Pocket wizard. I know there must be something I am missing. I am not a teckno geek and although I have read both manuals its like reading latin for me. What am I missing? Another thing that worries me is how tight the conncections between the pocket wizard and the sb 910 are. anyone else with that problem?

I have used it when photographing flowers. Moving the camera a little between shots gives you an abstract type of photo. Fun to play with.

I dove Dominica last year, along with St. thomas (unimpressed with dive operation and diving) and Grenada (ripping current on Bianca C- very short dive). I am heading to St. Lucia and Barbados in December to put in some 'bubble time'. Looks like April into Lembeh for a couple of weeks and then over to Raja Ampat for a week before a vacation stop in China on the way home. My gills are beginning to dry out as I hvent been in the water since September. Looking forward to the little critters of St. Lucia.

1) New England States in the fall especially Vermont and New Hampshire
2) Antarctica - high on my bucket list
3) Austria / Switzerland at Christmas

I just spent 18 days in New ENgland and can't wait to go back. It was awesome. Antarctica has always been on my list, even though I lived in Alaska for 30 years, and I have been to Austria and Switzerland during the summer, I want to see it in the winter with camera in hand. Of course these are all above sea level.
As a diver with a u/w camera I would like to visit
1) Indonesia (coming in April 2013)
2) Maldives
3) Little Cayman Island (been twice, can't wait to go again)

I don't think I have ever seen Dutch so clear. I will be up there in September with my camera to try to get some photos of the helicopter and the planes. Hope it is as clear then.

These fish are all over the Caribbean and are venturing up through North Carolin and beyond now. They are beautiful but very destructive. Many ways are being tried to combat their dispersion, including eating them. Havent tried them yet, but they are supposed to be a very light white meated fish. While I was on Little Cayman this summer I saw many many of them from little to quite large. The grouper on Little Cayman are like puppy dogs, but I learned about, and saw video of them munching the lion fish there, so perhaps there is a predator for these fish now.

Guess it depends on your religion. Sort of like Canon vs. Nikon.

Another possibility is to reshoot the camera with a very small aperature F22 or higher and flash. Might make your flowers crisp and sharp and your background black. Just a thought.

Photography = drawing with light. What will we do with only one photon of light. Amazing. Now not will I only have to convince my wife I need a new camera, but a new computer and probably a new power source to the house as well

If you decide to go with LR 4 (which I use all the time) there are free tutorials at Adobetv.com. Julianne Kost is the LR guru and does an awesome job explaining as well as showing how to use LR. As has been stated Education is the key to whichever program you use.

My best friend and I met the first day I arrived at the Sub Base in Conn. in 68' We have been together since then. Each of us have our families, but we still get together whenever we can. Time sure flies when you are having fun, and it seems to fly even faster when having fun with a best friend (Us old folks can have more thatn one best friend) I blame him for everything in my life, as I came down from Alaska to see him in 73' and met the woman who has been at my side for the past 35 years. We now live only a couple of miles apart and get together all the time. So everything I have done for the past 45 years is because of a trip when I cam to see him, so everything is his fault. Thats what friends are for.
