Another piece of trivia is that "Bald" is the wrong name. The correct name should be "White" and that is how these eagles are called in at lest one other language. The name "Bald" is from old english word "balde" meaning white or light. Thanks, Ivan.
I've often thought that "bald" was so misleading because they obviously are not. Thanks, Ivan, the information that goes with the photos is fascinating as well.

Sounds a lot like human juveniles.

I'm not even going to describe my thoughts on these. There are NO words to do so! "Magnificent" won't even come close. Now I know for sure I won't be showing any of mine, neither the natural nor the PPs.
I'm glad you told us about the eyelids, because I took one years ago that looked like the eagle was blind in one eye. I guess I can safely assume that they can blink one eye at a time...well, we can! That's very educational. Thanks

Actually I am not testing a moose but UH community. My first moose post did badly receiving only two messages and relatively few views. That made me think UH members are not interested in this big animals and my conclusion was not to post any more of moose photos. Pretty much the same case as with my first sea lions post. Now I realize this may be the result of some of my posts not showing up on the UH "radar" and there may be no sea lions/moose bias here at all. Am I right or am I wrong?

Yes you are right, wrong, right, there is no bias here. I love the 2 with the water especially and the twins! How cute those babies are. The second one in the water...I love the whole thing...the trees in the background, the water, the grassy pieces sticking out of the water, the reflections and of course "Moosie".

The trouble is not much happens in one`s living room and many interesting photos get born when you are at the wrong place at the wrong time. Thanks,Ivan.

Question:
I know that artists paint best, the things they LOVE to paint, I love landscapes, still lifes and animals. I do not like to do portraits because I think a good photo portrait is far better.

Do you love to photograph everything or are there things you'd rather not?

I think a good photographer should be able to photograph anything in an interesting way. I was accused of taking only "beautiful" photos so I even do some ugly ones on purpose now and then. If I should select one subject I really do not want to do it is weddings. Portraits for hire would run distant second. For many years I would not do cemeteries and graves, also had troubles to make myself take photos of a moose being butchered. But I always like a challenge and even tried to photograph birds in flight during a blizzard at night.
Thanks,Ivan.
Very interesting.

Now some will hate me for this, but we owned a sausage plant and processing plant for 26 years, so I have helped make hogs into sausage, proccessed cattle, goats, hogs and deer for the freezer. It doesn't bother me. During deer season, I could dress a deer while hubby dressed hogs for sausage, stop for lunch and go back to it. We often did as many as 28 deer and 51 hogs in a day. The next day, I cut up the deer and wrapped them for the freezer. If people eat meat, someone has do that job.
Can't stand to see any animals ABUSED, but never think of food source as abuse. Gotta be animals raised or hunted for food though.

I am not much into cemeteries but now and then the photographer inside me just cannot resist.

A lot of people seem to be fascinated by cemeteries. I'm thinking it must be because the sight of one just tugs at our hearts.

The lady who help me when I do wall murals can lean on the wall and fall asleep standing straight up...and stay asleep a while without falling. No, she doesn't lean in the corner.

Ivan,
Earlier in this thread, you mention Alaska having more Orchids than Hawaii. Are you going to do an Orchid thread? (I hope)

I mentioned that I have Blue-eyed Grass and Forget-me-not, but I also have Jack Frost. The flowers look like Forget-me-not, but the leaves are huge and very frosted looking. I adore blue in the garden.
I can't wait til spring for my flowers to come so I can practice on them. The time I spend painting will run a little shorter in 2012!

Horseart....thank you for the compliment! I really do appreciate it. I too think of children when I see the angels and cherubs. I am not sure if this was a child or not, I never did go look at the actual stone. When I do see the little ones, I often wonder what happened.
SHEILA, as I feel sad looking at a child's gravestone, my thoughts then turn toward the parents. I know that someone has gone through the worst possible hurt and my heart hurts for them.

It's OK, we are all enjoying some fantastic shots here with a little humor mixed in. I enjoy a good sense of humor! I'm thinking we need to be out focusing and practicing our own shots now that we are so inspired!

Off subject but do you ever take pictures at the Celebrations? I used to have 12 TWs and showed, but a divorce & liquidation order stopped that. I miss the beauty & power of the breed!
I know a LOT of TWH owners, have painted for so many, good friend with Gail & Jimmy McConnell, live near them, owned 77 TWHs at one time. Been to the Celebration 43 years. Who was your trainer. Yes, I have several Celebration photos. Won the yearling Championship in 1979. Picture of that in Alaskan's topic "HORSES"

A few misc. photos taken in Alaska and Washington.

I'd love to be as busy as the old timers, for just one day in my life. Great shots, but I think that is going to be the favorite of most lookers.
