I have both and Photoshop Elements has more capabilities- no question. The old story.. you get what you pay for. Remember one thing tho.. If you need help, use a program more people use and then you will not get the story.. Oh, I don't use that one...

If you would like full control, you need the higher end flash- you need to read the specs! The 430 is limited in what you can do and it's capabilities. The higher end flashes ($567-600 dollar range) has many more features. IT just depends on your goals and how you will use it. The higher end flashes are the older Canon 580 EX or the new 600x-RT. Some of the newer flashes can be used wireless. Do your home work!!

PhotoShop Elements has a built in program to place multi- shots into one print- for the $$$ still one of the best all around programs for post processing!!(in my book anyway!)

Any of the "Photo Buyers" including B&H, pay minimal prices for used equipment- If you can do it, Ebay will give you a much better return on your dollar. I know a couple of friends that have almost gotten all their $$ back as prices have gone up the last few years. I have sold to Adorama and they are very reputable!!

I have the Canon 7D and purchased the Sigma 8-16mm super wide angle lens for an Alaskan trip. It is super! Because of the 1.6 factor with my camera, I opted for the 8-16mm which turns into 12-24mm lens. I love it for landscapes as you can get super close foreground and the distant objects perfectly clear. It lets you frame your shots. It does an amazing job. I did some research and found no bad comments on this lens. I do not use a tripod when traveling(I know I should) but got super clear shots. I normally print on 11x17 paper and all my shots were super sharp!! I did not find any sales and paid the going price of $699.

I have a good friend that started with a 3 M. pixel camera and blew them up quite a bit- He sold more photos then the rest of us put together!! The picture is between your ears!!! not in the camera!!! yes a super $$$ is nice but the photo is still in your head and what you do with the scene!! Nothing wrong with the Rebel- Great camera!! Don't buy cheap lenses- go for the gusto in this area!! The off brand Lenses Are Not as Good!! I don't care what anyone tells you!! There is a difference, especially when you start to blow them up larger!!

Sounds like all great features. However,(and there is always a however-) it all really depends how good the lens is! Most of the "all" in one lenses in that type of camera are not "really" sharp! Now I did say most! It is pretty hard to find a camera, all in one, that comes even close to "Sharp Photos" that is not a DSLR. The photos are sharp if you make a 4x6 or even maybe an 8x10, but that is it - in my book. I usually print 11x16 photos and mount in a 16x20 frame. I have s small camera I carry all the time, and it is not good for larger photos. And I feel it takes sharp photos.

After calibrating your monitor(a must) you still may have to adjust your monitor brightness down a bit to make your photos match. Another item you need to check... some Printer-Monitor combos need the printer to manage the color process and some combos need the software to manage the colors. Make sure only one is set up to manage colors!!! One final item that worked for me: I had to adjust some of the printer colors up and down to finally fine tune my match process. So I have a + and - setting I use for printer settings. Yes it takes paper- just use 4x6 sheets to get it in the ball park and fine tune with larger sheets. Use a standard Epson Color sample for your trials (people and vegetation in one picture). Free download at Epson- Don't use some random photo- Good luck- it is "NOT" a simple process!!

Sudzmom wrote-Doesn't your camera shoot in B&W? You don't really want to do this, as if you shoot in Color, there is more Pixels saved in the photo file. So shoot in Color, and then covert to B&W. Besides, sometimes you will have wished you had the color version. For my nickle, NIk software for conversion is one of the best as already mentioned!! I will also agree, don't just do a one click B&W, not really a good way to to do it!

There is quite a difference between "Weather Resistant" and "Waterproof".....

As Harvey mentioned, you can get and use the fold up car shades for a very reasonable cost!! or you can even make one out of PVC pipe and a coupe dollars of thin material. The car shades are super!! and only a few bucks- fold up nicely!!

I just returned fro an Alaskan trip and used the $7 version quite a lot. The only thing I didn't like about it, was the fact that the hole for the vewfinder eyepiece was just a hole that you stretched over the eyepiece. It worked but after a couple of dayse the hole became quite large and it didn't work well so I had to use a new one. If you are out in the rain... I don't care how waterproof your camera is- I'm not going to try and see if it is totally waterproof for a lousy 10 bucks!!! Canon or Nikon- the factory will say the camera was abused- no warranty!!!

When I stated the 60D doesn't have this feature I was referring to the AF Micro-adjustment for lenses. I didn't really express myself correctly.

As already mentioned, use the back button for focus lock and re-compose. Use only the center focus square and you will be much happier. The second item- you need to manually set your lens up to your camera for the corrected focus - there is an adjustment that remembers what lens you have on the camera, and it adjusts the focus for that lens. It is called AF Microadustment Feature. Do it !!! You will be grateful you did. Do this for all your lenses!!!
