Going to St. Louis for a ballgame and looking for photo ideas, primarily angles/positions to shoot the arch from (also: warehouses, churches, funky neighborhoods, etc).

ref: East St. Louis - this place has been known to be worse than Chicago and L.A. combined. And though I'd be just across the river -- with expensive camera gear -- how bad is it? I'd probably be over there at 1:00 am.

Thanks

(I really like old, beat-up, and funky)

The Children's Museum is great. Inside is done using architecture from demolished buildings around St. Louis. They had off hours just for photography as to avoid usual Patrons.

The husband of the lady who planted all the daylilies carved this totem pole in tribute to Chief Logan whose face is featured on it.

One night last week they announced on the evening weather on TV that the northern lights might be out. As it was perfectly calm out I drove to a slough down the road hoping for some reflections-- and yes they were out! No coat needed and no bugs out yet either--that was nice

Great shot.

I am posting 4 images I took, not for their quality, but for awareness of UHH users. These are from our first visit to Mt. St. Helens and were taken from the NW road leading to the volcano. On the way traveling there, the trees were beautiful. Suddenly, as my wife and I went around the side of a mountain, the devastation of tree damage was shocking. The closer we got to the volcano, the worse the damage until we only saw stumps and blown over root balls. South of the volcano was a lake. From a distance I didn't know what I was looking at. Then I realized that the lake was full of floating logs - thousands and thousands. And it was so many years ago. If you have never visited there, it would be a significantly important trip to take. It also makes me think of the potential damage facing Hawaii if that volcano blows. BTW, at the visitor's center to the west of the mountain, about 30 miles away, look at the Big Leaf Maple leaves on the trees. Some of the maple leaves are more than 12 inches wide. My wife brought one back to her Florida elementary classroom. Her students were amazed.

One thing leads to another, and these are an example of my efforts to find new ways to get shots of flowers. Once again, I organized the subjects on a glass table so I could create some reflections. I also wondered what would happen if I used some plastic wrap as a prop just to add interest. Light came from a flashlight in addition to the natural light from a couple of windows. A piece of black velvet helped keep the background dark.

Other equipment: Canon 7D, Tamron 16-300 lens, a remote shutter release and a tripod.

I didn't expect to be back so quickly but had to share this. As I was mowing some really deep grass the Killdeers were all over me. I looked and looked and finally spotted the nest. The chicks were just hatching as I watched. I even have a video of one trying to emerge from its shell.
