You clearly appreciate light and its qualities, Dave!

Thank you Mike. I'm glad you approve, and thanks for stopping by and having a look.

A commercial maybe? The last image is just a bit soft but I couldn't resist putting it up; the director caught looking into my lens.

Very good work, both from you and the young lady on the "slack wire."

And all done without the aid of power tools. Good capture.

Very cool Voss. A good capture, a take off on "The Thinker" I think.

Thanks guys I think I have it figured out now.

It seems to me the way to look at this is: A 200mm lens is a 200mm lens. If that lens is used to illuminate a 120 size sensor (or film) it imprints an image that's approximately 57mm X 57mm (6x6.) If that same lens illuminates a 35mm sensor the image that is imprinted is approximately 20mm X 30mm. But the second image is only a portion of the original image, approximately 18% of the original 6X6 image in area. Now if we blow both images up to the same size print; the image from the 35mm size sensor will be magnified by a factor of somewhere around 2.85 times (57mm/20mm), give or take, since the two sensors have different aspect ratios. Its in the enlarging where the apparent extra magnification comes in.

My question is: If a medium format lens, say a Pentax 67 lens is adapted to a Nikon F mount FF camera is the lens still the same effective focal length and aperture? By effective I am referring to how when comparing FF to cropped sensor the effective focal length of a given lens is roughly increased by a factor of 1.5. Not trying to start a flame fest, just a simple question.

Very good work there (in the snow.) #2 is my favorite, but a hard choice.

I like the effect and the composition. But when did you find the streets of N.O. with no one but the subject on them?

I'll go ahead and put this one up. Linda's talk of snow got me going.

Thank you for your interest, Dave!

Looking back at my original, I combined 2 Topaz filters (forgot to label them, but pretty sure one was ghostly natural in painting) and then used soft light blend mode.

Below started from your upload:

1. Topaz Simplify ghostly natural in soft light blend mode 100% opacity
2. TS dynamic boost cool in soft light blend mode at 70%
3. a little adjustment to levels

What I like most about this newest edit is the suggestion of snow on the branches.

What all these exercises show is that there are hundreds of possibilities - including, as I mentioned in my reply to Cany, use of textures and layer masks.

A good discussion, much appreciated!
Thank you for your interest, Dave! br br Looking ... (show quote)

Now that you mention it Linda there's also the suggestion of high ice crystal clouds in this image in addition to the snow.

This is a different take on Linda's original image and was suggested to her as possible clean up prior to using the Topaz software. This is a B&W conversion and judicious use of an edge filter.

Dave that is a lighting effects filter I applied in Photoshop. You can do different types of lights, intensity, color, texture etc. You have to convert your image to a smart image before you apply it or when you try to save it as a jpg or tiff you just get a black image. Glad you liked it.

Keni, I like them both. Technically speaking #1 is probably the best of the two, but I have a fondness for night sky through tree limbs, so you got my attention with the second. What is the light source on the right hand side of the second image?
