You Otter be ashamed for peeking...

Great shot, congrats.

Actually, I think he was peeking at me, wondering what I was doing there. They are quite near sighted (because their eyes are adapted for hunting fish under water), so he was probably just wondering where that green and black blob on the bank had come fromā€¦ and was it anything edible?

Nice pic...

Thanks, this was an unexpected visitor to a small water I occasionally fish. I think heā€™s the better anglerā€¦ and he knows it.

BB, I went back and looked at some of your previous posts and they all look nicely exposed, which leads me to believe that you know how to expose an image. Iā€™m sorry to say that this image looks to me to be just under exposed and not an intentional high key image. If this is what you intended, I apologize for my assessment. But there are really no true blacks in your image, a high key image is much more than just underexposing the subject to blow out the background. Iā€™m not disparaging your work as a whole, but this photo doesnā€™t really work as everything is washed out. I donā€™t really comment too much, but this needs another go. I saved it to my photo file and tried to correct it but thereā€™s not enough density to bring out enough blacks to make it work. Your body of work as a portfolio is great, just not this one. Itā€™s a nice enough pose of a nice model. Itā€™s just not really exposed very well.

I understand that you don't like this image. The image was captured RAW and I subsequently processed it to give the "ghostly effects" seen in the above JPEG (hence the title and art/literary reference).

I didn't process the RAW file to give any High Key effects, and if you check my notes above, you will see that I've been careful NOT to make any statements about High Key images. I've supplied here another JPEG, straight from the RAW, with no post-processing (other than cropping to approximately the same dimensions, for comparison) changes applied to in-camera shot settings. This shows that I didn't start with an over-exposed RAW image. I admit to being a little confused by your assertion that I deliberately or accidentally over-exposed the image, as I can't tell if & when others have done that, just by looking at their post-processed JPEGS.

I just decided, as we are nearing Halloween, to post-process the RAW to give the resultant image a "ghostly appearance" and thereby make an image captured in April more relevant to this time of the year.

A very dangerous "sea" - wasps and other stinging six-legged creatures love goldenrods!

Some two-legged critters love Goldenrods, too. In the Bleak Mid-Winter, Downy Woodpeckers and Black-Capped Chickadees seek out the Goldenrod Galls and peck holes in them to extract the tasty grubs inside. And in the Late Spring, other critters seek the Galls after the flies have hatched and started a new life cycle. Those critters handcraft fishing bobbers from used, untenanted Galls.

Hereā€™s a case in point. A rare, Triple Goldenrod Gall flower stem, designed by Nature and handcrafted using that original form, for a new life as a side slider bobber. Isnā€™t Nature Wonderful?

Thank you for the explanation. I didn't remember a similar scene from the video although some may describe Kate Bush's singing akin to a ghost screeching...

Yes, I think it was Elton John who once described Kate Bush as ā€œArtistic Marmiteā€; sheā€™s definitely a polarizing influence in the industry. Elton credits her and Peter Gabriel with saving his life with this song: https://youtu.be/VjEq-r2agqc

I agree on the harshness of that cloth line. It seems to cut off her hair too much. A slightly different angle or position of the cloth would be perfect.

Understood. For this composition, I felt it worked. I wanted the fabric to appear to be more solid than the model, it was an artistic option I chose for this image, to fit a ā€œghost at the windowā€ theme.

Iā€™m now going to play with other shots in this series, using colour and some edge softening of the fabric, to try to tell a different story.
