I can relate--when I sold my last horse a few years ago that was hard, but it was almost even harder when I sold my saddle I had used for about 35 years

My mom sold my saddle at an auction after my dad died and dad had given my youth saddle to some young cousins who don't know what ever happened to it. I kept dad's saddle and used it for years. Had it refurbished and have it on display in the living room at our ranch in the Black Hills. It helps me remember dad and I riding cattle to check them on open range in the summer. I haven't had a horse for 50 years. When I got married and moved east river, we didn't have horses. Our cows are herded with an oat bucket I missed the horses. Like I said in a previous post -- I live vicariously through my neighbor girls.

If nobody posted, this site would surely have fewer viewers.

Fortunately, there are plenty of people who do and I enjoy helping those who ask for comments or help.

Are you going to shoot the finals? Please post some shots, I'd like to see them.

Remains to be seen if I can get to the finals. Depends on rain and my husband's health. I haven't posted anything (a)because I am too lazy and (b)I don't feel the need to. Guess that is just my oddity. I have had enough success in photography that I don't need to get any comments. I should probably change my attitude.

Shooting rodeos is a lot of fun. I sure miss my photojournalism job where I got paid for it. Budget cut! Now I shoot for myself and i agree, you can never go to too many rodeos. Having been a competitor in my younger days, I live vicariously through my neighbor girls who rodeo. Got to shoot my former college team last fall. They are doing really well this year. Our SD weather needs to straighten out before our Regional High School Rodeo here. Keep those photos coming they are great.

Must have had the motor drive buzzing. Watching PBR Last Man Standing right now. You have to have a lot of respect for those bull fighters. Your shots were incredible for a high school rodeo. Those bulls are usually a little tamer. Oh, in regard to your getting knocked down by cows and kicked by calves. Been there, done that. Nursing bruises on the back of my knee now from a friendly bottle calf.

You get an A. It is amazing what can be done these days.

When I first looked at it, I thought it was a headless bird. The head merges with the background too much. You did a good job making the image less dark, but the head thing really bothers me. Maybe follow Mike D's suggestion to tone down the background. A higher vantage point would have put the head in front of the water, but we always say get to eye level with an animal. In this case, higher would have been better.

The LaCrosse area has an abundance of photo opportunities. Check it out. We had a photo convention there several years ago and it was wonderful.

The XSi was number one on Consumer Reports when it first came out. I have one and have been very happy with it.

I debated between the iPad and Mac Book Air. I chose the Mac Book Air and am totally happy. It is small, goes everywhere with me and can do anything a normal laptop does.

#2 has serious background mergers. (The thing coming out of her head and the black strip below his nose.) Poses are good, but check the background more closely.

Quick survey. Are you a professional?
No commentary please.

1. More than half of my income is from photography.

2. Part of my income is from photography

3. Amateur only.

I consider myself a professional, but I don't work at it much anymore, so I guess I am a 2.

I have always used Mac. I have a Mac Book Pro 15 inch and the MacBook Air 11 inch which I take with me for internet use and to upload my photos on the road. Now, since my Pro is getting old, I am looking to get the Pro with retina display. You can't go wrong with a Mac, Just a matter of deciding what works best for you that you can afford.

I was a photojournalist long enough to know that you don't go on any trip with just one camera. There is too much chance that one will clunk out, get lost, dropped or stolen. You may not be at a location where cameras are easy to buy. Think of all of those photos you would miss. I have the SX50HS and I love it, but I would also take another point and shoot or one of my digital SLRs with a 28-300 lens if I only could take one lens for the SLR.

To me it looks too tightly framed. I would suggest moving back or zooming out a bit to get all of the tree in. I would also suggest putting the trunk off-centre for a more dynamic effect. An interesting looking tree; it's got possibilities. Maybe try a very low angle too - ground level, easily done if you have a flip-out screen so you can hold the camera low without kneeling in the dirt.

I agree, it is cropped too tight in camera. If possible, go back and take all kinds of photos like he suggests. The tree provides endless possibilities. Wish I had it in my territory.
