These series for an experiment just turned out fabulous. You have a good eye. Keep on trying, and photographing, you do have talent.

I went to the site and it looks nice, but I wonder what reality is. I still would not be enticed to fall for the hype.

They probably read this thread and realized the jig is up. I am glad that you even put this up. This should be a wake up call to a lot of people and I read a lot of good advice.

It's a scam but a genuine scam.
I have come across people online that have contributed.
It cost them quite a bit of money but they did get what they said was a very nice coffee table book at the end of it to show their mum.

Firstly I apologise if this is a common occurrence on UH.

What's happened is that I received a very nice invite form someone connected with World Wide Art Books in Santa Barbara. A girl said she'd seen my photos on a photo sharing website I upload too and that she really liked them. I was asked if I would like them submitted to her editor to see if there were any that he would like to include in the upcoming publication of "International Masters of Photography". Since then I have been accepted for submission.

Now it was stressed that there would be an inclusion fee which varied from $800 up to £3000-$4000 depending on what spread I had in the book and how many pages etc. This seemed a bit odd (but not scamming odd) as I thought if somebody really thought a photographers work was worthy it would be included for less or for free. This could just be me being completely naive though.

Being a keen amateur I was obviously very flattered to be invited, but there's just a little nagging doubt. The cynic in me took over from the flattered!

If I was to be included I can't see how it would benefit me apart from vanity. I'm still very much teaching myself photography and feel I'm improving but what would I get from the book?

I'd really appreciate any comments of similar experiences or from anyone who has indeed invested in this sort of opportunity to see how you got on.

I hate being cynical all the time, but unfortunately the world we live in..........

I must point out that there has been no pressure whatsoever and any payments have been mentioned to me upfront. The emails have been very friendly. There is a website and the it looks completely genuine. I just don't know what I would get from the investment if I was to stump up some cash (which I don't have spare anyway so it would be a gamble).

Thanks in advance for any comments, advice, help

For under $100.00 I can make three beautiful coffee table books with just as much quality put into it. Just go to Snapfish, Walmart and some other sites. The price of the book is not worth $800.00. I have heard of some people who ordered the book and the quality was of a dubious nature.

This is definitely a Photo Shop exercise, but I will have to admit they are funny and good. And if one did roll by me I would laugh out loud.

Keep your inner sceptic going. Many years ago, I got the same message that one of my photos was accepted in a great publication. I had to order the book for $50.00, inflation has made that more expensive. The price and the conditions were not worth the money it was printed on. I never took up the ridiculous offer and this one really says SCAM. If they tell you that this is a good offer, well, tell them what they could do with the offer. But do not fall for it.

There are sites where you can publish your own books for pennies or pounds on the dollar or pound. You control who sees your work. I made $200.00 for a sale of one of my photos on Flickr site. If you really have a photo that is worth while, you will be paid. You can even sell your own works on sites like Amazon, and if you know of other people with like interests double up and make your own photo book. I too am a amateur but a lot of my photos are used on many websites as my photos are under the creative commons license. But over time, I have gotten offers to be paid for a particular photo to be published.

I took the 1st one yesterday in the cloud while snowing. I tried to compose it with interest. #2 was just a cool shot of the bridge, #3 was just an inspiring shot to me Please let me know if it can be improved.

They are all good woodsliv, but #1 is very very good. Great shot and well done, it's a keeper. I don't think #1 needs any crop at all, it is fantastic as is

I agree wholeheartedly, as I looked at the cropped versions and the original, number 1 is great as is, no crop needed. That definitely is a great wall hanger. The other two, the cropped ones did have some merit but so did the original photos.

These are really good textures and very artistic too. Once the juices get going the possibilities are endless. Good job.
