I think that these are super, super pictures. Super in their simplicity and super in the textures and super for how they make you feel. I feel they are, in many ways, far superior to many of the slick, crisp, ofter oversaturated ones we usually see here.

Yesterdays posting didn't make the cut. So I'll try again.

Photo Gallery posts a set number of postings. Perhaps they could find a way to rotate their choices so every post gets its chance.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is another SILENT photo posting. (Second try for this one!)

Silent meaning… no comments, no captions, no titles, no discussion… only photos.

Todays subject is… TIME FOR A BREAK!

If you have a photo that fits the subject… please share and post one or more, with no text other than the subject of the day… Time for a Break

I happen to have the next sequence of events… what happened after the break. So I’ll include that. Please do so… if you can.

I hope you enjoy silent photos.

... So, Barry... I can't remain silent! I 'm curious. These silent series of posts of yours have garnered many views and responses. I happen to REALLY enjoy them! This particular one, "Time for a Break", seems to have been buried into Post Oblivion for some reason. It disappeared quickly and I can not find it at all except that I have a leftover Email from the post before my last on this thread.
~ Any Ideas why this got buried or taken off??

Thanks for your note and vote of confidence in the SILENT postings.

I can't tell you too much re: your question. I do know that they post only so many Photo Gallery entries. How they make their decisions? Who knows. This is the second time they've omitted the SILENT postings series. I'm a little surprised about that since it draws readers into the conversation. Perhaps I'll post it again and keep my fingers crossed.

Doesn't work for free. Might volunteer for a personal situation.

Professional doesn't, by definition, reflect the quality of the work. That can be anywhere on the scale. The work quality will be judged by how often you are hired.

I wouldn't call it a failure. Ad producers aren't really concerned with accuracy. What matters most to them is overall visual appearance of the ad and its effectiveness to communicate a message, to sell a product or service to the viewer. Ads are about creating fantasy, not realism.

You may be very right. But truth and accuracy should be important. We don't get much of that these days. Too bad for us!

My guess is that it is the failure of the producer or director of the ad. The homework about the proper equipment use was skipped. This is seen more often than it should in advertisements. Often with musical instruments... which I notice having been a professional musician.

I may not be right. But that's the way it struck me at first glance.

I do my best to be non-confrontational and negative. But this forum is about photography and not recipes and recipe pictures that are out of focus.

And I love cooking!

The ocean front beach house we used to rent disappeared with Hurricane Hugo in 1989.

We now go to Emerald Isle, NC.

We used to vacation on the beach... Folly Beach. It’s not part of Charleston... but it is near Charleston. About 30 minutes or less by car... if my memory serves me.

As mentioned above, the "treatment" at the top of the Basics panel swaps between color and B&W.

Regarding selective lightening, investigate instead the Adjustment Brush, a much more powerful tool.

Anthony Morganti (on his website) just did a video (this or last week) on selective adjustments using both the radial filter and the adjustment brush.. He made the case for both... depending.

Your photo does indeed have a sense of mystery ... you did compose it well.

One trivial suggestion, in west culture we read from left to right so a horizontal flip in my opinion would be useful. Why? well we would view a field searching for a message and wow there it is the hill, thus end our viewing with a mystery. In contrast starting with the mystery then viewing a bunch of no message field leaves us with emptiness.

I was intrigued bye the idea of flipping horizontally. So I dumped it in Lightroom and tried it. For me... it didn't work. But I thought that if I could flip just the sky and clouds... so the wide part of the clouds were on the same side as "what's over the hill"... it might. But I don't know how to do that.

That is a nice image. Though it took me a while for my eyes to go to and find what I think is the subject... the lighthouse. Though that isn't so if the pier is the main subject. But I went by your title.

Here is another SILENT photo posting.

Silent meaning… no comments, no captions, no titles, no discussion… only photos.

Todays subject is… Dramatic Clouds... in Black & white

If you have a photo that fits the subject… please share and post one or more, with no text other than the subject of the day… Dramatic Clouds B&W

Personal note: My asking for Black & White clouds does not reflect any preference one way or the other. It is just an arbitrary choice for this posting.

I hope you enjoy silent photos.
