Hi to all from NE IL. I've been monitoring UHH for some time now and thoroughly enjoy the forums, photos and comments. Been into photography since college days way back when albeit at a very basic level. Now semi retired and getting more involved. Looking forward to participating with this group.

Been reading postings in the forum for about a year now. Finally decided to jump in. Nikon shooter, was a Canon shooter in the film days. Enjoy all kinds of photography, but I mostly commit portraiture and landscapes myself. I appreciate the knowledge and experience everyone shares here. Thanks everyone!

I am from the western part of Kentucky and am new to the site. I am retiring soon and have always had some interest in photography. I had an old Olympus (40 yrs old) that I have not used for years. I am considering purchasing a Canon 70D. It may be somewhat advanced for my present skills, but I am trying to avoid an upgrade two years down the road. Any comments are appreciated and any suggestions regarding what lens to purchase would be greatly appreciated.

Batman,

Hi, my name is Joel Novak and I've been a member since august 2014. I finally decided it was time to stop creeping around and make an introduction. I grew up in the Newark NJ area and I have been living in North East PA for the past 24 years.

My first real camera was a Minolta SRT 101. Boy did I love that camera. Still have it but it is a mantle piece collecting dust. Currently I have a Nikon d7000. I love photography, but unfortunately, like sex, I don't do it often enough.

I enjoy reading through the forum. I've picked up a number of tips so far and hopefully will be able to contribute to discussions in the future.

Hi Sendero. Have you tested the lens on a target? If it's focus is off a little you can go into the camera and correct it. Get a yard stick and put a mark in the middle of it. Set it 45 degrees from the camera lens and shoot on a tripod. If it isn't sharp on your mark. It will show which way it is focusing front or back and you can go in camera and tweak the focus. It will know when you put the lens on and correct it.

Erv,

What distance between the camera and yardstick would you use? Would this be the same for any lens?

Thanks.

Thanks Bozsik
I'll be using it primarily with my D600. I've also ordered a 1.4 TC which will take it out to 560mm. I can't wait. :D

When you get it, try it on your Df and let us know how you like it. I have a Df and use a 70-200 & 70-300 with it. I also have a 24-85 and have been thinking the 80-400 would be a great compliment to it. I haven't used the 70-200 as much as I thought I would. If I ended up with a 80-400 I might sell the 70-200 and 70-300.

Found LR6 non CC to be a slow loader. Glad it didn't remove my 5.71 version. Glad I trialed. A good example of why I oppose rentware. I'd hate to pay monthly for molasses.

Runs fine on mine. Loads quite a bit faster than LR5.

I first thought LR CC converted the catalog, it does, but as a separate catalog, so 5.7 would keep using the old catalog as stated.

I uninstalled Lightroom 5.7, but the old catalog remains beside the now current Lightroom CC catalog.

Yes, I removed the LR5 catalog and the LR5 catalog previews along with LR5. Everything is running fine with LR CC.

This upgrade did not replace the previous version. Not sure why, because once you upgrade the catalog to LR6 it can no longer be read by 5. Once you start using LR6 there is no point in keeping LR5.

Anyway, I put it through it's paces last evening and this morning, and it is quite good - the ability to use Android devices (I use a Tab Pro 12.2 for tethered shooting), a far more useful filter brush to fine tune the application graduated and radial filters - and the performance improvement - I can't recommend it enough over the previous version. And if anyone is curious, yes, it offers support for the Nikon D7200.

Thanks. I just uninstalled LR5 from my Mac along with the LR5 catalog and LR5 catalog previews. The new LR CC is running fine.

But to use CC you will need to upgrade your catalog. I suggest removing LR 5 - LRCC is clean and fast.

I downloaded the new version of LR and it is running fine. I still have the old version too. Is that how Adobe handles upgrades? I expected to see just one version after the upgrade. No problem with that, but now that I'm running the latest version, what can or should I remove of LR5?

Thanks,

I guess all those good shots using the Nikon 70-300mm vr lens on my D7000 should be thrown away. Oh and those made with the macro 60mm as well, and don't forget about the other ones with the 35mm lens as well. Darn, been wasting my time for a couple of years now.. I have a love hate relationship with talk forums like this.. It seems 80% of the forums talk about why the camera or lens the person or people are using at the time have major faults. Not many actually get out and use the camera and or even consider it's 99% user related when the camera or lens fails.. Heck if you camera doesn't shoot good in totally darkness, then learn to shoot during the day. If you lens is a little soft in the far corners, learn to crop a little from your photo. Working around the limitations of your camera and lens is actually part of the learning process, and most important requires one to actually Use the camera.
