There may be enough interest in film, given the size of the world's population, to make some production feasible, but anyone who thinks there will be a wholesale switch to film, well, I've got this bridge.....! No, I won't sell it to you but I will charge you to take pictures of it with your film camera. Just call me at BR-549......

If there were any truth to that myth just think of how many cellphones, tablets, and laptops would have been fried by now.

I think your camera would be safe for the same reasons that your SD cards (or whatever) and the non-volatile memory inside the camera would be safe. However, if there was anything causing arcing (e.g. mechanical switching of high voltages), that might be a different story.

In the case of arc welding, whether it could cause damage to the electrics or not I couldn't say for sure, but I wouldn't want to get too close just in case, and I can tell you for a fact that it can damage the sensor if you are taking pictures of the welder's arc or making a video recording of it.

During my years of running a diesel and heavy equipment shop I took numerous photos of welder and plasma cutter arcs. Sometimes to document the work but mostly just for fun or to give to the mechanic doing the work. They enjoyed photos showing what they did. Never a problem with any camera.

A Hood, not just any Hood
But
Aaaa canon EW 73D....Hood!

And low and behold...

it works!!!!

no more ring around the image!

Amazing isn't it how things work properly when you use the proper components? You'd almost think it was designed that way!

So to solve my own problem..
I just realized that what I am seeing is.. the hood at 24 mm when i zoom out it goes away!

at 50 mm to 105 mm i do not see it

My initial thought " the Hood" is what I see at 24mm..maybe I am using the wrong "hood"

The proper Canon hood for that lens is the EW 73D.

Among camera manufacturers Sony and Panasonic are also in the battery business but I don't know if they make batteries for their cameras though.

Canon's batteries are made by Panasonic so I would think they make them for their own products also.

For me only oem batteries only never an argument with manufacturers about voltage caused by battery

What would there be an argument about? The voltage would be the same. The slight difference between the rated voltage of various manufacturers is because not all use the same method of determining voltage.

Thanks all, a miracle happened. Found a knowledgeable and honest computer repair man. Simple fix, my previous repair shop installed the DIMMS in the wrong sockets and failed to notice their error on 3 subsequent visits.

If anyone in the Green Valley AZ area needs repair work done PM me and I'll give you the info.

Let's see, 2 DIMMS, 4 slots, right? To screw up such a basic assembly procedure and then not be able to find the problem makes me wonder how that shop was even able to turn your computer on!

My experience exactly, also with my 7D, 6D, 5DIV, and R5.
With the in-camera battery charge level indicator bars, I couldn't "see" any difference.
I wonder if there is there any contrary experience for any other brand?

In the menu under "Battery Info" it gives the actual percentage of battery capacity. Don't know how accurate it is. Never checked it when I left my 5DIV on for 2 days. Whatever little bit it lost it wasn't noticeable, as you have already noticed!

Did it go to sleep?
I think I have my camera set to sleep after something like 15 minutes.
Sleep (standby) uses a lot less power.

My current camera, an R5, is set to go to standby after 1 min. I probably had the 5DIV set the same.

I have always been an advocate for Referbs. I have purchased a number of bodies and lenses from Nikon. Some directly from Nikon, some from Adorama, and other companies that sold Nikon referbs. I always had perfect performance from them and suggested referbs could potentially be better than new. I felt new might be perfect or might be just barely within the tolerances allowable. I felt referbs would have been gone over by a technician which would not happen if one came straight off the line. So here is what happened: I bought a z7ii and some lenses and wanted to use only mirrorless for a while before getting farther into this kind of camera. I felt if this was going to be an ongoing test there should be a backup camera. Nikon ran a sale and the z5 was less than 900.00. I received one and to my surprise, it was more like new than referbed. Not the slightest mark and when I took shots to feed to the website that reads shutter counts, it must have been zero since the few shots I took showed as only 6 clicks. I felt great about getting what appeared to be a new camera for a much-reduced price! After shooting a couple of times with no problems, suddenly a problem did show up. The camera wouldn't clear the buffer in any reasonable time. I would take a photo and the little green light on the back of the camera (that shows it is processing) would stay on for 15 or 20 seconds. Sometimes the shot would come up on the rear screen after that time, sometimes it would not. When I would hit the review button sometimes the shot would come up, and sometimes it would go into the processing mode again with the green light coming on for 15 to 20 seconds. Since it was under their 90-day warranty I called and asked to send it in for repair. After listening to the description of the problem I was told to send the camera back for a refund. I protested stating I had purchased it on their sale and if I sent it back for a refund, I would have to pay more to replace it. I also told the Nikon person I shouldn't have to pay to return their mistake. He was very nice and understanding and sent me a pickup UPS label so I did not have to pay for the return. He also gave me a code to get 20% off their website so the new camera would actually have been 20 or 30 dollars less than the original one with no charge for shipping. He also said the code could be used for a lens if I preferred. When I went to their website to repurchase the z5, I noticed a z6ii had become available so I used the code to buy that instead. I believe if the new camera is as good as I've been used to in the past with referbs, this will work out for the better. The one thing I missed on the z5 was the little window on top which is easy to check a few setting on the camera.
I have always been an advocate for Referbs. I hav... (show quote)

Glad it worked out for you. Good PR on Nikon's part.
What you mention though is a common misconception about refurbs. It isn't one technician sitting down with one camera and refurbishing it. Ever notice how on the manufacturer's sites refurbs show up in batches? The typical refurb process involves accumulating a predetermined numer of units of a particular item. As a group they are torn down. The components that routinely wouldn't be reused are scrapped. The rest are checked to meet spec or are scrapped and replaced with new. Everything then goes to an assembly line. Probably not much different then at the original factory. The batch is then put up for sale. This is how industry refurbs are typically handled. There are variations, of course, depending on the item, but, one guy sitting at a bench refurbishing one item, such as a camera, is not cost effective on a large scale and this type of refurb is avoided by companies whenever possible.

I left a previous camera, a Canon 5DIV, turned on for two days without realizing it. Battery was fine when I went to use it. It might have lost some charge, but not much.

I saw "GoPro Mouthpiece Mount" on a Google search page, and I thought it was a typo. It isn't. There is a mount to carry the GoPro using your mouth. I doubt parents would buy that as a gift for their kids.

I would love to see the video of someone with a mouthpiece mount getting in a barroom fight! "Gee, what big knuckles you have!"
Skydivers have used mouthpiece shutter releases for decades, but, a mouthpiece camera mount? I'll pass!

While on hold during your call to Canon, review your firmware on the EOS R5. If not v1.6, perform this update.

There's also a firmware update for the EF 100-400L II lens. I'm not sure how you check that on an EOS R5, but the download files is in the support section for the lens at usa.canon.com.

The same menu page that provides info for the camera's firmware will also show, and allow the updating of, the firmware of any Canon lens attached to the camera, including EF lenses as well as the Canon adapter itself. On the R5 that would be page 6 under the wrench head icon.
As you stated, there are firmware updates for the EF 100-400 L II so the OP should make sure his lens is up to date. The camera probably is since he just sent it to Canon, but, it never hurts to check.
